Good vampire movies.

I know most vampire movies suck, because... fandom. And yeah, fandom usually sucks. And service to them sucks more.

But there must be some good vampire movies out there. I'm in the mood for one. Anyone want to help me out here?

Lost Boys had a really good atmosphere to it.

What We Do in the Shadows was pretty entertaining, not exactly 'good'... but refreshingly unique.

Lost Boys it is. Should be interesting to watch Sutherland as a youngster. Thanks for the reminder!

It also has an American remake with Chloe Grace Moretz, its IMDB rating is lower, I don't know how it compares to the original.

It's creepy and weird but in a good way. Nothing in common with the sappy and unoriginal mainstream vampire movies.

Speaking of mainstream, Underworld is watchable. Liking Kate Beckinsale helps a lot to make it more palatable. I can say the same about Van Helsing but you have to REALLY like Kate Beckinsale - or Huge Jackedman - to tolerate it. These are the vamp action flics I can think of. And then we have Blade which suffers from a severe lack of Kate Beckinsale and is the typical cheesy nineties action movie.

Interview With the Vampire was where vampire movies kicked off and became mainstream. This is the film which made Kirsten Dunst famous, it also boasts young Tom Cruise, young Brad Pitt, young Christian Slater and is, in my highly critical and personal opinion, boring as fuck.

Another so-called 'classic' nineties vampire movie is From Dusk Till Dawn. It is also extremely boring in my opinion although I think the same of all Tarantino films. However, even if you haven't seen it, it features a Salma Hayek dance scene which is a solid 10/10.

Out of this list, the Swedish movie is the least stupid but not necessarily the most watchable. If you are in the mood for some good, no-nonsense action and don't want to overtax your brain, Blade is probably better. Underworld is what you should watch if you want a combination of gothic-themed vampire action with Kate in a leather suit and a bit of romance on the side. The only reason I can think of to see Interview with the Vampire and From Dusk Till Down is to educate yourself on popular nineties vampire movies. I couldn't really recommend them otherwise.

p.s. yes, I'm extremely fucking critical, can't help it
You have to be realistic about these things.

Give a try to Warlock. While vampires are lost souls, that one knows what he wants. He is not vampire, but vampires tricks next to that one are puny tricks.

While off topic, i would recommend everyone watch 'they live' without doing any research into the movie beforehand.

What We Do in the Shadows was a thing... they also have a sequel coming out called We're Wolves.

Let The Right One In was very good. Not a heavy action movie though.

Then there's always BTVS (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) for 80's greatness.

Interview with a vampire
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115232/ - Kindred: The Embraced (tv show using white wolf's world of darkness intellectual property)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433362/ - Daybreakers (non popular movie, has some cool scenes)

to be honest, most vampire tv/movies suck, if not all.

here's a vampire mmo in the making... and please don't judge it by its pre-alpha trailer... the animations and graphics are not final, in fact they don't even have a server yet. indie developer.

That Swedish film is pretty much the best vampire movie ever made. Moretz's remake is good too (it's kind of pointless remake but none the less one of the best remakes made for the Americans who are unable to watch foreign films). The book by John Ajvide Lindqvist in which both movies are based on is also excellent.

Other than those two the Interview with the Vampire you also mentioned is very good. First three books by Anne Rice are also good but from there the series goes down rather bad. The sequel movie Queen of the Damned is way worse than the books it loans some scenes from.

Near Dark is pretty good even though it has IMO the worst possible plot element available for vampire films.
Spoiler
I hate 'turning back to human' idea so fucking much.

Byzantium (also directed by Neil Jordan who made Interview with the Vampire as well - also check his werewolf film The Company of Wolves) is quite nice and slightly different take on vampires.

There are more OK or better vampire films out there but I'm too lazy to hunt for the names right now. Hammer Films did some nice ones in the 50's and 60's (I think), b&w Nosferatu is still pretty nice and I'm surely missing some decent newer ones too. And yeah, I like vampires but unfortunately most of the vampire films these days are garbage.

EDIT: Forgot to mention TV-show called The Strain. Three seasons done and one more to go. Again quite different take on the topic but definitely good series.
