That is the correct and intended behaviour. To perform an attack without moving into range of where you targeted, you hold shift.

why is this the case for melee and not spells then? my freezing pulse doesnt do it.
there needs to be an option to disable right click movement if you want to, one of the main things done with one of the most used melee skills, lightning strike, is to thin the herd before you run in and with the current way things are this requires an extra button press...its just one more HUGE reason to not play melee at all. its also true for ground slam, much of the time you dont want to get any closer when you use it from a distance, and in fact it could kill you to get closer but if you dont hit shift and are slightly off the tiny hitbox you will...seems odd to not allow this to be disabled. It's kind of annoying for me as well :) When you're doing lightning strike, if you click a distance away, your character will actually walk to that spot to swing his weapon. That is what's causing the movement. The solution is either to hold "shift" or click very near to your character so they swing on the spot, but changing angles become an issue.
This affects different melee skills differently. For example you can use ground slam without shift and typically your character won't move. I guess AoE type (do not require a target) won't move you, but a targeted (yes lightning strike requires a target even if the target is an empty piece of dirt) attack will move you a little bit. I find the "shift" key to not be too intuitive as sometimes I bind lightning strike to "w", and I have my fingers all tangled to use "shift" + "w". I guess a rebinding of keys is in store some time soon but I'm too lazy :P |

I would also like to see a button to reverse the use of shift. So when I hold shift I will walk to my target and else I will use the skill on the spot. (I hate it when I desync into a other room because I did not ducktape my shiftkey down.) Left mouse button would be the only exception else we can't normally move anymore.
It only takes a blink of an eye to be somewhere else.

"Spell do do it. If you try to cast a spell at a spot that is out of range, you will move to a point where you are in range then cast the spell. Freezing pulse has a rather long range. It isn't just right click; all abilities will attempt to move in range of the target location or mob before activating unless you hold shift. Lightning strike is a slightly different beast, simply because the "main" strike is a melee strike, while the secondary strikes are ranged. The ability moves you into melee range so the initial hit will connect; if you don't want that, you need to hold shift. |

I like my shift button.
Don't change it. |

" Because it's a melee (close range) attack. Seems a bit self explanatory. | |

Going to drop my two cents.I would love a option that when ticked in the user menu considered yourself holding shift down always and when you hold shift to have a the reverse effect of letting u move/follow the mob to get a clean shot.
I think it would be a amazing addition for the far future as someone suggested. Just my opinion "Only speak if it improves the silence" - Ghandi
