I think it's quite an issue when a broken skill is mandatory for a boss fight, especially when the skill doesn't make sense for most builds outside of pure optimization.
Izaro has a terrible attack patern design, making him a run-crusher at the end of a very long series of instances. In my opininon, the issue in the labyrinth isn't the multitude of traps along the way, it's its two lazily-designed bosses (the crashes and disconnections being close behind).

Well, decoy totem is not mandatory by any means. It is very powerful, and helpful for someone who is having trouble. As for the attack pattern, I agree that it is kind of all over the place, BUT the fact that his really hard hitting attacks (the big hammer slam, the leap slam, the sword/lacerate/reave/wave slash) are all fairly well telegraphed/have a long wind up animation makes it fairly obvious when they are gonna happen, and where. The builds that cannot tank these hits are often very fast moving (high eva and high move speed) builds, so they *should* in theory be able to GTFO. Even as a ranged character is is safer to stand closer to him, where he will be more likely to just use his auto-attack or one of the big telegraphed slam/slash moves, which you can get away from. If you try to out run him constantly, you're gonna get gunned down by the Goddess with the green booger bombs, Izaro's sunder move, or a leap slam from off screen.
U MAD?
There is also one more time wayy too many effect going on imho, with not much room to maneuver in the last room, which encourages ............. facetanking :///
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
Well, even if the decoy totem isn't mandatory, it's still waaaaaaaayyy too close to being so.

And as for Izaro's attacks, his basic attacks are way too close to his numerous slams damage-wise. I personally don't see the difference, except for the sword wave.
