It would be nice if you could clarify it for everyone.

I don't think the info they gave was particularly confidential, but I'll let GGG post it if they want to.

Here is the most relevant part of the ToU that I could find btw (bolded the relevant bit):

"
Confidentiality of Passwords: You must keep all password and login information associated with your Member Account confidential and not disclose such information to any third party or allow a third party access to your Member Account without first obtaining Grinding Gear Games’ written consent. You will be solely responsible for all activities undertaken and/or costs incurred under the use of your password and login. You must notify Grinding Gear Games immediately if you know or suspect that your Member Account has been accessed by a third party or your login or password details have been, or may have been, obtained by a third party.

So I guess if you want to play with your friend at your house you would need to write to GGG first and ask for their consent. They will probably say 'no' I guess, but that's up to them.

Like I was saying before, they leave it vague to cover any angles. Third party could mean literally anybody that is not you or GGG. They would rather not specify any loopholes in case people wanted to abuse it like my example of friends on different sleep times keeping a character up almost constantly to be top of the ladder. However, I feel like they do not scrutinize every single log in. My girlfriend and my computers are literally 9 feet away. If we were to use one another's accounts, neither of us would complain and I doubt GGG would care or know either as long as bug abuse or multiboxing with 1 click to all clients or something more dangerous to the game's integrity were to occur.

If one of us were to run to the bathroom and the other completes both ends of a trade to and from each other while I am gone, would I really complain? No. Would the log of this activity be discernible from a regular two person trade? Doubt it.

It is just that the potential for abuse probably is what keeps them from outright saying "We can't stop you from account sharing but be warned: blah blah blah typical concerns when account sharing."

i think there are 2 reasons on why they don't openly tolerate several users sharing accounts:

1.) the hassle support gets when the (former) friend messes up the account or items in it by accident and the original owner tries to compensate the damage by blaming the game

2.) the more email addresses are registered, the more official players they can announce

additionally, having his own account is more likely to encourage the temporary visitor to continue playing later on. at least that's the reason i got my nephew his own account :)

age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

True. In another thread here in Help Rachel just posted that paying in game for grinding services and such is allowed and added that sharing accounts is not permitted. Kind of shortens the vagueness right there.
