Friends playing on my account

If I invite my friend over to my house and let him play on my account is it breaking terms and conditions

Not sure on the rule, but to be honest if it is from your house it will be the same IP address and no one will ever know...

Unless you post it on the forum :P

While I don't think the terms of use say it verbatim, GGG pretty much says don't share your account. I don't know if they really do anything about it if its mutual use though. It is more so their warning to prevent being emptied out by supposed "friends" that happens in loot and currency collecting games like this.

The ToS does say to not share account info with third parties which is loose enough to include anybody other than the account registrar.

Pretty sure its in the terms, something like this?

Account Registration: To acquire or make full use of any of the Website, Materials and Services you will need to register for a Grinding Gear Games member account (“Member Account”). If you do choose to register for a Member Account you warrant that all information and personal details you provide to Grinding Gear Games are correct. In addition, you acknowledge that you are aware that POE has an R16 classification in New Zealand and warrant that you are over sixteen (16) years of age. You may not transfer your registration or any rights you may have in your Member Account to any other person or entity. For the avoidance of doubt, you acknowledge that you will have no ownership rights in your Member Account, including without limitation any Virtual Items connected with such Member Account.

I was under the assumption that was more an explicit do not RMT your account sort of thing. I guess it also covers account sharing to a degree. Depends on the relationship of account sharing versus transfer to the legalese dictionary.

Not sure if there is anything specific in the ToS on account sharing.

But really it would just be a cautionary warning because "friends" can be dicks and delete characters, steal items, use hacks etc and saying a friend did it and not you would not save you from a perma ban.

I also would really like to know the answer to this. I want to know if helping someone put up their skill tree while I am at their house/etc could get them banned, for eg.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

I've PM'ed you regarding this.
Please contact support@grindinggear.com if you need any assistance.
It would be nice if you could clarify it for everyone.

I am assuming something like this isn't openly discussed because it would set a precedent that might bite you in the butt though. Was already thinking of how it could allow people to be top of the ladder by never having downtime on a character. Although if I recall, that already happened a good number of times in the past.

I don't think the info they gave was particularly confidential, but I'll let GGG post it if they want to.

Here is the most relevant part of the ToU that I could find btw (bolded the relevant bit):

"
Confidentiality of Passwords: You must keep all password and login information associated with your Member Account confidential and not disclose such information to any third party or allow a third party access to your Member Account without first obtaining Grinding Gear Games’ written consent. You will be solely responsible for all activities undertaken and/or costs incurred under the use of your password and login. You must notify Grinding Gear Games immediately if you know or suspect that your Member Account has been accessed by a third party or your login or password details have been, or may have been, obtained by a third party.

So I guess if you want to play with your friend at your house you would need to write to GGG first and ask for their consent. They will probably say 'no' I guess, but that's up to them.
