Eternal orbs.. Should they come back?

I've thought this through a lot and found that a big portion of advancing through the game is lost without the ability to craft gear to its full potential. Eternal orbs were a great idea, but they pushed out mirror worthy gear way too quickly, and were only for the rich. Also, eternaling gear wasn't a very viable option for the average player who isn't into trading but still wants to advance their gear because of their rarity, and obviously their cost. I was thinking, whether it's a new update, or maybe an introduction to the lab, GGG could make a once per week challenge, most likely a very difficult one, that allows players to essentially eternal a piece of gear they own. This could also extend to being a piece of gear they are wearing, to make the challenge even more difficult to get good gear eternaled. This process would limit the amount of gear being eternaled and make the average player have the ability to eternal gear. Also, eternals would not revolve around trading then and not be an orb, essentially they would be very similar to the enchants that you get at the end of the lab.

Another reason this could work is because it makes the use of exalts more practical, which would majorly affect hardcore leagues and the overall value and importance of exalts. Or this could be used as events in a league where gear could be eternaled therefore there would not be too much eternal spamming occurring.

So give me your thoughts guys, what do you think?

Should GGG bring back a form of eternal orbs? why or why not?

If they should bring back a form of eternal orbs, what should they do?

Yes exalt sink. Uber rich snap 1000s up like hotcakes to make a GG item.

Cant do it w/o eternal.

IMO - First off, they should be eternal, not consumable. When one was used, that Eternal orb would be placed in Stasis - unable to be used again, as long as the "imprint" existed. If the imprint was released (Item's new mod made permanent, or item reverted) than the eternal orb could be used again.

Eternal orbs wouldn't be the same type either. You might collect an eternal orb of bow projectile speed for instance that would allow you to roll back any item mod that wasn't bow projectile speed. If you did roll bow projectile speed, the imprint would erase itself and the new mod would stick. The orb would give an improved chance to actually get that particular mod, though it wouldn't determine the actual rolls.

Eternal orbs would have both a cool down period and a recharge factor. Depending on the tier and exact mods they influenced, the cool down might be once an hour, to once a day or up to once a week. Recharging an eternal orb would be similar to Vaal gems, but would require high level unique monster kills to fill again. It might even require the death of a certain map boss for a specific eternal orb, for instance.

Lesser Eternal orbs could influence broad categories (melee, ranged, spell) and have a bigger chance of bringing about those types of mods, but also have more mods that would get locked in.

Lastly, they wouldn't be regular item drops. They would be quest items, and added to your hideout inventory page. Any character that had access to that hideout (same league, same account) could take them out of the hideout decorations page and take them along in inventory to recharge them.

Each master could be assigned certain Eternal orbs types, but any associated fee for usage would be very minimal - maybe a transmute, or scroll, if any.

Eternals shouldnt have existed in the first place. Very bad choice when GGG put it in, and glad GGG saw the problem and took it out.
Sure the damage has been done but it will fix itself slowly over time.
The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.

Welcome to PoE.
If at the same time GGG removes mirrors - or better yet makes items mirrorable only once by giving "mirrored" to the original too - then yes. Otherwise no.

It was a very good exalts sink. Sometimes guys would spend up to 5000 exalts eternal/exalting. Not to mention min/maxers love it. Makes sense all around to me.

Why "shouldnt they exist"??

Ye I didn't really mind when they existed. Plus, It'd be nice as a personal goal to finish some of my Standard items for fun. But hey, gotta give control of the Mirror/Et market to like two people, amirite.

Eternal orbs should drop with pre-difined mods for example

and ET drops and when you apply it on a chest you get 90-99 life.
another ET drops and when applied on boots you get 25-30 run speed.
3th example an ET drops and applies 21 - 23 attack speed on a one handed weapon.

they should drop in all forms from 1-4 life on a chest to 110-119 life on a chest all mods should be possible to roll. on all items. it still makes crafting that perfect item really expensive as a t1 orb will be worth a lot of course this will make sure the people who don't craft that perfect gear still can make a living! (sell the orb for lots of exalts to a crafter) and crafters still can make nice gear but in the end it prob costs more then the old ET / Exalt crafting.

Yes if mirrors are removed/deactivated.

Sorry you can't have both.
