Hardcore latency, major issues [PETITION]

Edit: Let's keep the discussion going so this thread stays on front page until a dev acknowledges it is a high priority issue that is being worked on.

Another summary of the issue: Players are being kept online, where they are vulnerable, way too long while they're not in control of their characters. As long as 20 seconds without any response from the client.
Give me hardcore or give me death.

They have many high priority issues. No need to keep bumping a thread, if they want to respond.. they will.

Needless thread bumps are considered forum spam and I will lock this thread if necessary. If GGG wants to respond they will. You spamming the forums isn't going to change that.

Understood, my apologies.

This is an objective networking issue unlike the many subjective balance/preference issues which make up a majority of the feedback. Perhaps this thread is better suited for the Bug Reports forum, hm.
Give me hardcore or give me death.

I lost 1 character in 095 to crashing while surrounded at a wp - trying to use the WP.
But well its a beta - so i expect some like this to happen.

Would be nice if some sollution for this, but i am not shure such a sollution couldnt / wouldnt be exploitet.
So there might be a reason GGG considder this issue some.

I'm sure it can't be 3 seconds, or there is some other bug evident...

I've lost 3 60+ hc characters to desyncs/connection losses, but the last one finished my hardcore playing.

I built a fully regen marauder with almost 2.5k of hp, and 188hp per second passive regen. I was determined to survive any connection issues.

Yes his damage output was rubbish, but he could drown in mobs and still be ok, additionally I had some endurance charges to further boost my defense and regen when totally overrun.

At full health and with an empty screen in chaos, I lost my network connection. Surprise surprise I login to default...

There is no way I'll believe my mara would have died in 3 seconds.

Good point right there ^ I also lost my hc ranger due to

lag issues , being a D2 hc player for years I've lost

like 1 sorc ( 97 ) and 1 necro ( 45 some idiot killed us

with tppk lol ) nothing more nothing less for YEARS of

playing . In PoE soon as i started hc - server delay and

I'm pretty sure that at the same moment ( during that

delay / out of sync issue w.e ) I heard the Trololol guy

singing his song right before I ended up in the Default

league :D

The thread isn't at all about crashes, but attributing things to "It's beta!" voids the entire point of beta testing, do your best to report what crashes you can and the circumstances they happened under.

bsdunx and I have confirmed that your character stays active in the game for 15-20 seconds after you get disconnected/go unresponsive, not 3.

fwiw i have confirmed this as well with a guildie...now way is it always 3 seconds.

and what about door portals? i was being chased by a horde of monkeys when i entered a door portal (with 1000 hp and 250 ES, about 30% DR) from one map to another and when i popped out in new map i was down to about 30 hp.

if this is intended cool, but in HC i need to know cuz if this is intended i will stop runnign through doorways if any mob is near me.

Sorry for the delayed response to this thread.

As MusicGTELife and others have indicated, the client heartbeat timeout for disconnections is currently set to 20 seconds.

This is a temporary workaround for a bug still on our to do list, and will be lowered to something reasonable once we have that fixed.

We understand that this makes hardcore particularly dangerous, but since we're still in the stage of beta where characters are occasionally wiped we haven't pushed this to the top of the list yet.

As for scorpitron's question about area transitions, there will always be *some* difference between when you think you're safe and when you're actually safe (largely due to your ping) so you should try to avoid going through doors/portals if you're in mortal danger. We do have one or two ideas which might help minimize this difference a *little* more, but we unfortunately still can't do anything about peoples pings.

Hope that helps clear things up.
