It is very useful as 2nd skill for non-crit ele builds in combination with the Elemental Overload node. Link it to Increased Critical Strikes, cast it once into a group of enemies, the second form crits 95%, and you have 40% MORE damage for 8 seconds.
If you are self-casting fire or lightning caster, it synergizes quite well with the Elemental Equilibrium node (which is quite near for an additional -50 resistance).
As a primary skill it ***** the ****** off a ******

I love the ice spear, i use it in combo with cast on crit ST + arctic breath + ice spear + greater multiple proj + ETC
