Standard Chars and Free Ascendancy Points?

I would like some clarification on the above subject please.

I currently play in SC. I have two chars which have passed all difficulties and two more which I plan to level up to completion if the answer to my question is conducive to doing so.

Once a character has completed Malachai in SC does this mean that this char is now entitled to receive the six Ascendancy points automatically ??

If this is correct, can you please confirm it for me.

If not correct, what is different or what must one do to obtain these six free points?

Thank you,

R.

Your existing characters get ascendancy points for each difficulty in which they have killed Malachi, yes. However, you still have to actually ascend to claim the points, which means completing the labyrinth once. It should already be unlocked and it doesn't matter which difficulty you complete it on if you've beaten Merc Malachai already.

So then, according to this, the so-called "free" Ascendancy points aren't free at all?

You still have to take your characters through the lab to get those "free" points aye?

Further to this : How do you propose I take 3 or more SC characters through the Lab when they are almost totally unequipped to handle it?

Can you please answer me these questions?

You don't need to be remotely equipped to handle normal lab if you're a level 70+ character. Should be child's play.

Whilst that statement of yours is not correct, the real crux of this matter is this:

The "free" points that GGG are supposedly giving to standard players .... free meaning unencumbered by any conditions or penalties, are *not* really free at all in this case.

To get these so called "free" points, I have to first negotiate the labyrinth from start to finish, killing everything in my path to reach the end game boss Izaro, then kill him as well.

If I die in the attempt/s through any fault of my own or through disconnection by the GGG servers, I am then forced to do it all over again...until I succeed. Correct?

In other words: These are *NOT* "free" points at all!

I am being forced to run the labyrinth to get them, something which I do not want to have to do.

However, if I do not do this, then my character builds suffer because of it.

This means that GGG are blatantly and openly lying to their players about the "FREE" points.

I would like to talk to someone from GGG about this please. Could you transfer me onto an Admin.?

Thank you.

I'm just a regular player mate. I can't transfer you to anybody. If you want to talk to GGG directly I'd suggest contacting support@grindinggear.com.

That said, as far as I know nobody from GGG claimed that these points were free. That's your own choice of words. Even if they did and I missed it, the process of claiming them takes ten minutes and is fairly easy. I'd recommend you just spend your time doing that rather than complaining about it.

Thank you for you help.

I will contact them directly as you suggested.

For the record, this is the wording from the actual news post, emphasis by me:

Some Standard and Hardcore players (i.e. not those in the Perandus leagues) have a lot of characters that they want to Ascend. Running 18 Trials and 3 Labyrinths is a lot of work when you have several high-level characters from each previous challenge league. We will be running a process tomorrow that will grant some Ascendancy points to existing Standard/Hardcore characters. Characters in Cruel will receive two points and characters in Merciless will receive four points. You still need to run a Labyrinth to actually choose an Ascendancy class. This means that if you run the Merciless Labyrinth, it'll be equivalent to running all three (due to the bonus four points). Note that this is a one-time process that we run, and only applies to existing permanent league characters.

EDIT: The way that this was run granted people who have completed Merciless difficulty six points.

It was made clear that you have to run the Labyrinth at least once. My guess is the technical aspect of being able to choose an Ascendancy class. Which means that it's highly likely that there won't be a shortcut/Support being able to asign your characters Ascendancy classes.
The normal Labyrinth is level 33, though and nowhere near as scary or taking as much time with high-level characters as the merciless one.
Basically, ignore all monsters if you want, just grab the necessary keys (golden ones) and fight Izaro. Traps are still dangerous, though so don't go afk on a sawblade track :-D. Movement skills like Leap Slam, Blink Arrow, Lightning Warp etc. help a lot dealing with tricky trap layouts.
Doing the whole thing in a party with at least one person who has done the Labyrinth that day is even faster since the layout is the same for 24hrs. :-)
Doing the merciless Labyrinth in a party is also a lot easier and faster if you have one or more highlevel, well equipped characters with you since you can wait outside the Izaro fights in the area before his room and they still count for everyone in the party.

Thank you for the reply, Alysma.

However, I do *not* want to run the labyrinth again.

My prior efforts showed me that the labyrinth is a super mario type of joke.

GGG has made a bad mistake in gating the Ascendancy behind it.

I don't want to have to drag my characters through that ridiculous maze to get them Ascended!

I have contacted GGG and am currently awaiting their reply.

Your suggestion about letting a fast well equipped player shepherd me through just reinforces what I forecast would happen.

If GGG looked at the constant line up of people getting taken into Merciless Malachai just before he dies by paid "Malachai" killers to get the Quest then they would realise that Labyrinth is going to end up the same, a way for a few players to make exalts.

No one in their right mind could not see this. It is already happening and will continue to grow.

What should this sort of thing tell GGG?

It should tell them that a LOT of players do not like the labyrinth. It isn't fun, it's just boring and frustrating.

Getting thrown back to town and having to start over so we soft core players can get a taste of what "hard core" players experience is stupid and pointless.

If I want to play HC I would make another HC character! I don't need an ersatz HC experience when I have chosen to play SC!

Gating Ascendancy behind the Labyrinth ??

A bad move that will do nothing for this great game, except maybe make a few players richer who run Izaro Kill Tours.

My characters will be at a distinct disadvantage in this game because GGG has decided to go this way with Ascendancy.

Look...I appreciate your post, but it doesn't change the way I feel about Ascendancy or the Lab.

Thank you,

R.

I dislike the lab, but it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. Streamers have done testing on the best way to clear, and it's to just run straight through, and if you get stuck in a trap, pop flasks and maybe a quicksilver to avoid the dot effects. My first ever lab run took me 45 minutes. After I figured out a few of the patterns it took me 20-30 minutes on each reset and could go down to 10 once I learned the layout of the day.

Don't try to carefully skirt around the traps, or fully clear every zone. Kill just enough to keep up some quicksilvers or keep monsters out of your way and run straight through everything else. Golden keys are the only thing you really need to slow down for.

I run a crit phys ts/punc with overcapped resists, a good bow, and a bit under 4k life, and I rip maybe one in every 10 runs to Izaro + a bs helper. It's not that hard and I don't know why everyone lashes out at the difficulty.

The thing I do hate about the lab is that it's how you get the freaking implicits. I spent a total of 6 hours trying to get just the right mods on a pair of gloves. I don't even know how long a helmet is going to take.

Past that, stop complaining about the difficulty and just freaking do it, it's not hard and it doesn't take too long.
