So, what's the deal with exalted orbs or does the POE economy just not make sense?

Well there is definately some infaltion on SC due to botting, and simply more people playing there. I've never seen HC exalt prices much over 45c, but it may be different this league, with more people trading there will be more currency in circulation.
anyway, if you don't consider crafting, exalt is fully useless in that league because almost every items is very cheap and you can buy it with chaos.

Its not the value of the action of the orb itself that gives exalted its value, its its' scarcity which determines the value. Much like gold in real life (pretty useless) but its scarce and therefore valuable.

It's very simple.

GGG mades 6 socket items more common, they drop more often.

Because fusings are buyable with jews at the vendor, the price of the fusings drops.

6Ls are the most needed and wanted items but there is a greater supply of fusing.

Chaos is not needed outside of zana' map mods, master craft and chaos spam on rare. The supply is huge.

exalt drop rate has not been increased and are still needed for good crafts

eternal orb do not drop anymore so we need more exalts, a lot more of them. I MEAN A LOT MORE.

Drop rate of high tier unique has increased, their value have dropd.

So the value of exalts have increased and the value of unique/6L stuff has decreased.

-> exponential devaluation of gear/normal currency and exalt is more valuable because eternal orbs cannot save thousand of exalts.
-> increase of the exalt's price by 50%

See, it's very simple and logic.

Pretty good post, another thing to add would be the recently discovered effect of master crafts. Before that it was just about Elreon. Now we know that Tora/Haku/Cata crafts are important too and since the release of that information on Reddit, those masters are probably receiving much more attention than before. Creating yet another sink for Exalted Orbs.
Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
exalted orb is a pretty good orb . It also takes much less room in the stash . imo chaos orbs should be stackable to 40 like regret orbs.
The main reason for it to be so popular is probably because items in the ah that are good costs exalted .

i never droped an exalt in perandus league so far ...
Giving currencies a function thus allowing separate supply and demand forces to act on them in addition to normal currency factors might be the most innovative thing GGG has done with this game. So much better than a pure currency system.

This is, sadly, this is the main reason why SC is so flooded with chaoses. HC bots simply do not work.

Also, say big thank you to all RTM idiots and apologists, who say that there is nothing wrong in selling some currency - why do you even care if someone makes few bucks by selling HIS currency?!

I've heard that from one of the streamers, and was harassed by his flock of viewers later on, for holding a purist opinion. Lol.

So yeah - bots and RMT scum. That is pretty much it.

Why is it better in temporary leagues which are the focus of GGG?
