It assumes that a significant amount of people actually pricecheck before setting up an item for sale, which they do.


Example:

John has no idea what a Mortal Hope is worth, so he goes to the market and sees that there are buy orders of 40c and sell orders of 45c. At that point he has to make the choice between the convenience of getting a bit less right away and waiting until someone offers them the higher price.

It is not even 40c vs 45c, it is 40c vs 43c.

That is a healthy market that would be worse off without that 40c buy order.

Given my above example from the mortal hope market, why do you find it to be a douchebag maneuver? From an economic standpoint (which is a main focus of the game), the 40 chaos buyorder is only healthy for the market.
