Solution to POE's Lab Problem

That's right. They'll know from the logged-in numbers in a week, after people have thoroughly destroyed their foreheads on that wall.

You say that you're a shitty player, He who answers the call... I'm here to tell you, most are apparently much shittier.
Quoting Saltychipmunk:
...I look at the new act 5 boss where you have to hide behind the statues to survive the bullet hell and all I can think is... how the fuck are zombies going to survive that?

They don't know what hiding is... they don't know what dodging is... they are morons.

I love this expansion but I literally will be forced to quit due to literally being impossible to play through..

Entirety of PoE up until now: designed around the concept that players can log out at will to instantly save their character, and thus relatively forgiving of disconnects and server issues

Labyrinth: Designed around a single attempt with a 24 hour logout penalty

What OP is trying to do isn't fix a problem so much as pave over the new with the pattern of the old. The whole portals thing is a fundamental change disguised as a compromise - 6 attempts is a hell of a lot more than 1.

Although I must admit: the design of the Lab does run completely contrary to PoE's previous logout/disconnect policy, in a rather jarring way. It's not really the same game, and it's completely unforgiving on connection and server issues.

The closest I could think of to a fix, which unfortunately would require significant programming effort (but perhaps still less than OP's), is:
* There are two options in the Options menu to have a character remain in the Labyrinth during disconnect. One of these is for non-Hardcore (On by default), on for Hardcore (Off by default).
* In the even of a disconnect, your character remains in the Labyrinth, in their current position, completely vulnerable, until you log back in
* When you log back in, instead of going to the Character Select screen, you immediately resume control of your Labyrinth character (if you go to Character Select, it means you died).
* Players entering the Labyrinth with the option On have a warning box they have to click OK to, before proceeding (similar to creating a Hardcore character). Same deal for turning the option On while in the Labyrinth itself.

Of course, none of this helps in the event of an instance crash (nor OP's suggestion, for that matter); my suggestion mostly pertains to connection issues local to the player. If GGG intends to keep the core design of the Labyrinth, preventing Labyrinth instances from crashing, even under stress conditions, should be a top GGG priority.

I agree there should be an in game warning before entering the Labyrinth. Relying on patch notes for crucial in game information is inadequate. Will pass that along.

Today was more about server crashes than instance crashes I'm fairly sure. By and large the Labyrinth is quite stable. I got one pre Izaro crash during testing. I don't believe many streamers crashed often, except Kripp who failed to update content from a hot fix.

First day server crashes are going to happen. GGG broke their online concurrency record. Again.

Not saying I know for sure - - not my style - - but I would advise waiting at least a few days before seriously judging the Labyrinth's stability.

And remember. I'm in Australia, on wifi. Hardly first world net stability.

I'm notoriously bad at this game because what this game has demanded for the past two years either bores me or exceeds my idea of time well spent.

I'm not so bad at setting aside an hour or two to patiently, thoroughly explore a trap laden dungeon. You'd think that'd be easier than grinding high end content for days... Well, I would. And do.

What about people with garbage internet though, one of this game's major selling points for me was if you dc it isn't a big deal, now dcing at least one time a hour, I'll never be able to progress..

Nothing is stopping you from overleveling the labyrinth and going back to finish it quickly. You can attempt it a bunch of times a day if you wish.

I leveled to 45 before doing normal Labyrinth, I finished it in 15 minutes.

Sorry man, but that is just complete counter-logic, I know it isn't ggg's fault I have bad internet, but having to over level just to blow through it is just as anti fun as dcing is, I LIKE the lab, I just want some sort of check point for people prone to dc...
I like this idea myself, especially b/c i dc during lab runs ONLY. no joke. i can map for hours but if i take more than 20 mins in lab, which i always do b/c i like to grab everything, i dc. no BS. It has nothing to do with an internet connection or settings that i'm aware of unless someone would like to enlighten me. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I have the same problem myself. Some people in reddit say it's because of assets or something. What works for me is to restart my computer if I die (it's shit, I know, but I haven't died a lot anyway), although it seems waiting for instances to expire should do the trick. Before fighting Izaro at each stage is a good point to wait. Of course, this is not good for farming enchants, but it's good enough for AC points.

Personally, I'm less hardliner about the labyrinth than Charan or Scrotie, some way to use six portals as proposed in this thread would be good for me. The current design encourages rushing, while the labyrinth works best as a tense experience when you are at the proper level without twink gear.
