Can't run new patch in WINE
|
glad PoE is working again, I also have a huge performance drop with the new patch however...
Let's hope they won't break it agan :p " I remember having that issue as well. If I recall correctly, it had to do with openal. On winehq, there is something about that: " maybe it is worth a try! |

Has anyone found a solution for the frame drop?
about 70% of my frames are gone now. |

Got it working as well by creating a new prefix, overwritting the .dll files Observ linked (and regedit them), installing vcrun2010 and reinstalling the game.
Ubuntu 14.04 AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (fglrx) Seems the game is reacting wildly to different Wine versions. Couldn't get it to even start on 1.9.1-staged (some _w_Gettnames function it couldn't find), ran fine on 1.9.2 and 1.9.3-staged (even with CSMT enabled). Tried running through act 1 to see if I had any of the mentioned portal problems. Unfortunately it seems I too can't enter Climb from Ledge. The game softlocks in the loading screen. Could not test if using the portals made any difference as I tend to delete all my characters between leagues. Btw, I love the Linux gaming community. While the Windows users piss and moan we get stuff done! Edit: After some testing with a friend I found that (using wine 1.9.3-staging) The Den and Vaal Ruins also caused the crash, thus stopping you from progressing further then Act 2 Normal with any new character. Enlightened Hideout also seems to cause the crash. Initial testing with Wine 1.9.4 does not seem to have this problem. If you're getting the game to run but these zones crashes it, I suggest upgrading to Wine 1.9.4 (Kinda bummed out I can't seem to find a staged version of 1.9.4 yet. CSMT is so ridiculously powerful on this game) Last edited by Windbox#6037 on Mar 2, 2016, 8:16:32 AM

Thanks observ for your post.
It worked with wine-1.9.4. It did not work with any of the earlier versions of Wine, although 1.9.2 was able to get into main menu. I had a problem with an inability to install vcrun2015, even if I used the zip file's contents, the updater kept trying to install MSVC. I had to turn off all my programs, switch to Windows, run vcrun2015 there manually (PoE could not install it even on windows 8 for me), then run the game to have it learn that vcrun2015 is installed.
" I haven't been able to try anything on linux yet but I'm glad you've been able to get the game running again. Regarding the vcrun2015 issue, perhaps it would be useful to install it using the latest winetricks? I've read on winehq guides that it is available that way, but it seems many distros don't have the latest winetricks version in their repositories. Something like this might work to install it this way:
Spoiler
cd ~/Downloads
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks env WINEPREFIX=/home/USER/path/to/prefix sh winetricks vcrun2015 (taken from https://wiki.winehq.org/Winetricks) |
|
" The latest winetricks didn't work for me. It appears to have worked for many others, but not for me. The installer crashed with a report that I can't remember but it was something I have found only on ages old topics (2008 and such).
|
I installed vcrun2015 using these two methods and now I'm back playing normally. I haven't experienced crashes so far (only tested the portals though) and I'm not experiencing lower framerate either, although I've always been in the low 20-50 end. I didn't change wine version, I'm still using 1.9.2-staging.

So, i finally got it to run. It somehow did not seem to find the .dlls in c:\windows\system32, so i copied them over next to the PoE executable. this feels very dirty, but it somehow made the game launcher start up.
it's still checking, so i don't know whether the game works. |

Somebody tried after installing the 2.1.2e patch?

" Using default PlayOnLinux setup, and couldn't install the *d patch and didn't try any hotfixes. The *e patch downloaded and no problems booting up, however my FPS has tanked. Last edited by MañjuShri#2853 on Mar 3, 2016, 10:42:32 AM
