Can't run new patch in WINE
I got it working after trying several fixes listed here and other places on the interowebz. Running Ubuntu 14.04, wine 1.9.4. I reinstalled POE before I figured out the .dll issues and got to the final patch where it would crash at ~45-50% download completion throwing out the .dll errors listed as the common root for the problem.
In order to get the .dlls needed I installed wine1.5 and wine1.7 to guarantee that I got the updates needed and the .dlls. I force updated and installed wine, PlayOnLinux, vcrun2010, vcrun2012, and vcrun2015, as well as winetricks and it has partially solved the problem for me. I started getting a Direct3D error, which I was able to work around by deleting the config.ini file located in my virtual C drive, which reset the graphics settings. I can only run it in 1024x768 resolution, and any changes throw the Direct3D error. I think this is the .dll issue getting a partial solution because it cannot recognize the service packs for windows. I am going to look deeper into the issue and hope I can get more details. If someone has run into the Direct3D graphics issues that sound similar let me know if there is an easy fix, I kept getting runtime.dll problems whe installing vcrun2015, and I think that is causing my graphics problems. If anyone needs anymore help, I got a couple hours before work and I can do what I can to help. Commands I ran: Breakdown
Spoiler
First I made sure to update wine, winetricks, etc, to latest and get all relevant files. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install wine1.5 sudo apt-get install wine1.7 Check and update visual studios files winetricks -q vcrun2010 winetricks -q vcrun2012 winetricks -q vcrun2015 riched20 usp10 winetricks -q vcrun2015 riched30 usp10 Some of the files are not stored there for the service pack, namely MSVCP140.dll. This error is because the DLL and relating files are in this package. Not sure exactly why yet. sudo apt-get install p11-kit-modules:i386 sudo apt-get install libp11-kit-gnome-keyring:i386 Update directX just in case winetricks -q directx9 winetricks -q directx10 Follow the rest of the instruction on the wikia http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Path_of_Exile_on_Wine I did sudo su before running winetricks update to install the fix for every wine install I have, as I can filter using PlayOnLinux to get the required files w/o causing an issue. I dont want to have to follow over 10 command lines every time I need to reinstall path. Last edited by lizards160#0274 on Mar 1, 2016, 10:41:15 AM

Edited previous post with command lines I ran to partially solve the problem. I am limited to window mode, and limited resolution, but It works and I can punch things, so taking a break from personal tech support. I will gladly help someone else get theirs up so they can punch things too.

Considering the crash at portaling somewhere or entering a new region: i got the responsible DLL.
It happens not at every region, only at some. I am fine at the "ledge". If i enter the "climb" it crashes: " Which means, there is a missing function in the builtin wine implementation of that dll. I tried to override the DLL using native. Does not work though :/. It is present in my $wineprefix/drive_c/windows/system32 folder. Has anyone a working version of said dll, so we can use portals again? |

Alright, I now have PoE up and running. To get there I nuked my PoE wineprefix and started from scratch.
I am running Arch with Wine 1.9.4. I made the new prefix, installed the files from the link that Observ posted back on the first page. I then ran regedit inside the wineprefix and imported the included reg file. After doing that I installed vcrun2010. At this point I was able to install, and patch PoE and was able to start the game and load into it fully. Thanks again Observ, your help was appreciated! PS: I'm not having issue with using the waypoint or portals in game. Last edited by dhettinger#2933 on Mar 1, 2016, 3:56:35 PM

Clean reinstall with dhettinger settings fixed it.
Applying the settings to a current POE wineprefix did not work. i could launch the game, but it would crash often using portals. Now i can jump through any portal without crashes. I got a huge FPS drop however. From 80 FPS to 35 FPS with same settings. Still playable. Last edited by kartoffelopa3#5993 on Mar 1, 2016, 4:50:30 PM

" This works well (at least to get the client going), thanks a ton dude! Also big thanks to Sovyn for posing a pseudo-official guide to running poe on linux at "Path of Exile on Wine". Really helped So I basically uninstalled PoE using wine-uninstall, then followed the instructions on the link above (Path of Exile on Wine) up until I got to the same error (http://imgur.com/whNEUO6). Then I went ahead and ran the commands in the link above and the client launched. However I'm still running into some problems. The login screen is black (no rain/poe logo), there isn't any audio, any subsequent screens are black (like character selection, although I can see my characters but not the background), and it crashes whenever I try to zone into town, giving the following error message: http://i.imgur.com/9WNbTXT.jpg ("Unable to create Vertex shader. 003C73B94 Request audio format unsupported"). I don't know if this is an issue with wine/linux, the game, or my system. Big thanks to everyone in this thread so far! Last edited by CabooseDog#7947 on Mar 2, 2016, 12:35:47 AM
