Understanding new Deadeye node "Powerful Precision"

Powerful Precision gives:
* Projectiles have 100% additional chance to Pierce targets at the start of their movement, losing this chance as the projectile travels further * Projectile Critical Strike Chance increased by Arrow Pierce Chance I have two questions: 1) I notice that some skills (eg: Blink Arrow, Rain of Arrows, Barrage with a wand) have a 'projectile pierce chance', whereas other skills (Lightning arrow, barrage with a bow) have an 'arrow pierce chance'. Does this mean that those skills without an 'arrow pierce chance' won't get the bonus critical strike? 2) At the start of the projectile's movement, they will have an extra 100% chance to pierce. If this takes the chance to pierce above 100, will the Projectile critical strike chance be increased by more than 100 as well? Obviously I can't test it in game yet, so I'm just trying to work it out based on the wording of the node. 1) Arrow pierce chance includes projectile pierce chance. Even something like Freezing Pulse will still get the bonus crit chance from this node. The confusing wording is just so that arrow-specific pierce chance (e.g. from quivers) will also apply.
2) Pierce chance can only go up to 100%, so likewise the max crit chance increase you can get is 100%. Have you done something awesome with [url=http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Sire_of_Shards]Sire of Shards[/url]? PM me and tell me all about it!

Hum, does Skills having build in Pierce will benefit from this this without support or Tree nods like ST or Ice Spear ?

" Not sure about Ice Spear, but Drillneck's Pierce works with Infractem, so it seems reasonable to assume that it will work. Altho, it seems pretty broken with ST. question is if you can get more than 100% pierce and if yes (wiki says "A projectile with a chance to pierce of 100% or more will always pierce.") if crit chance from powerful precision work with higher than 100% pierce chance.
example: spectral throw 100% base pierce + 100% powerful precision = 200% crit |

" No, you can stack more than 100% pierce chance, but the effective value is capped at 100%. Similar situation to block and spell block, if you stack 100% block and have '50% of block chance applied to spell block' you will have 37% spell block, not 50%. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Attack Projectiles Return to You after hitting targets
- Can a projectile hit the same target more than once? - Would Lightning Arrow on returning hit a mob and proc its secondary lightning AOE? Projectiles have 100% additional chance to Pierce targets at the start of their movement, losing this chance as the projectile travels farther - I assume having above 100% chance to pierce (as it gives 100% additional) and its losing it as it travels, means that we can't go above 100% but we can stay at around 100% longer (or farther), which is key for skills like LA and the shotgun combo with pierce/frost wall (The same way we overcap on resistances and we encounter -max, or the mob has penetrates X resistances I assume that I will still have 75% res if I overcap its Pen, or am I wrong here?). The question is how reliable would this be for the single target it provides with Frost Wall or a pack of stacked monsters. Projectile Critical Strike Chance increased by Arrow Pierce Chance - Here we get 100% increased critical strike chance, doesn't go up, but we lose crit chance as the projectile travels further, correct? So the potential benefits in that sense for something like LA with Pierce and Piercing shots, which handles single target fights with frostwall shotgun mechanic due to 100% pierce would be only the 100% crit chance which is not 100% crit chance at all times, while handling the loss of mechanical DPS from the decrease in pierce chance for your projectile. While for something like KB I guess you get the extra explosions from the return projectiles - not that you need them or that you can control them as packs are usually dead by that time anyway. Depending on the pierce/distance ratio this can help you reach some nice bonuses to Crit chance and free up some points or a gem for pierce chance, or completely destroy a reliable mechanic - requiring you to dedicate additional gem slots for extra pierce from jewels. Not even sure how to approach testing for this... |
