You then can switch your class in the drop down box to a witch, and respec out of the starting templar nodes, because maybe you might not need the resistances anymore?

That is a drawback.

But if you considered that a drawback, you would just roll witch in the first place, and just touch it out, until you have the gear to subsidise the less resistances you will have from not going templar...

Considering everyone who makes a build, makes it for the long run aka 80-90

All I'm saying, is it could add a whole other level of theory-crafting a building the perfect character, not just for endgame (which you would have already planned around an 80 or so point build) but for all those 70 levels that come before it

Still not understanding what the benefit "class change" would have, besides being able to start with an easier class for levelling then switching to a different class for end-game.

That's Pretty much it, but its not switching for endgame, its switching based on the gear you have and being able to optimize yourself fully.
Keep in mind for you to even do this, you would have to be somewhat deep into the tree and desired talents already so I wouldnt say you would be "switching your race" just for the sake of it, you'd have to have thourougly researched the pro's and cons of switching, because it might not even make a difference anyway.
I would say its for hardcore players who would want to be able to min-max absolutely everything about their build.

I'm guessing the OP gave the impression that I want to be able to basically change my class at endgame, but its just not as clear cut as that.

In reality, this idea is not OP or "gamebreaking" at all. In fact its just a way for people to customize the game play more.
Ill say it again, why would you waste 60 orbs of regret, just so you can assumably level a tiny bit faster for 60 levels?

On top of all that it would create an interesting play in race leagues, where you might see players changing earlier on, due to actually needing the 5% advantage of that slight boost to dps or health/resistances depending on their gear to get the highest level they can in the quickest amount of time
