Feedback/Opinion on the new maim mechanic
Simple solution:
On the node that gives maims, add: "Enemies that are maimed by you take 20% increased damage". Now the node is less about maiming enemies tobslow them down, and more about getting active maims so you can deal extra damage. Conditional 20% more damage seems like a fair amount of power considering what other second-tier Ascendency nodes can do. IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo

" I was never talking about damage and i don't think maim should give any additional damage (since it is not an exclusive mechanic - every type of build can use it if you just build around it which is good design) Maim as an additional defensive mechanic for everyone (not just ranged only) would be fine and that was what i was hoping for this "new" mechanic could be. It is a great opportunity for GGG to implement such a flavourfull mechanic - i hope they don't miss it! " This is exactly what i wanted to say - ranged is the only type benefiting from that in a hilarous way (up to 70% movement speed reduction on enemies). Other build typs don't get a comparable benefit out of it and melee doesn't get any out of it because they are already face to face to the monster - the monster doesn''t have to move anymore to damage you so movementspeed reduction has no real benefit in combat situation. " Crit is getting rekt anyway in Ascendancy - i am just waiting for all the haters to rise and going crazy all over the forums. As you can tell from the ascendancy class reveal they are probably going to change the crit multiplier mechanic to be additive instead of being multiplicative - maybe the crit multi gem will be the only multiplicative source for crit in Ascendancy, who knows? But if this would really happen your concerns won't get away - ranged/AoE will always be superior to melee/AoE in ARPG's in roughly 90% of the case. They missing 10% could be specific encounters/bosses were melee have a natural advantage over ranged (currently such encounters don't exist in PoE - maybe some will get added in the futuere, maybe not) Last edited by Wiesl_1404#1448 on Feb 10, 2016, 9:39:37 AM

My main issue with this is in naming, 'maim' is a bit too broad, I'd prefer 'hobble' or 'hamstring'.
Other than that, it holds little value for melee, but so did bleed until we got a bloodlust gem. What if we get a 'Sneak Attack' support, that gives more melee damage versus hobbled or blinded targets? Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
