The new Ascendancy classes seem kind of bland compared to the others

lots of interesting stuff can be done
The new Ranger Ancendancy class seems very interesting. So much utility. So many possibilities.

I always play phys bow build and my choice is either Pathfinder or Deadeye. Most likely Pathfinder. It just seems stronger.

It will make Uber Atziri so much safer and combined with The Retch, Taste of Hate (and other solid flasks) and Druidic Rite it could become incredibly strong
Looks like the WoW talent page, handful of bonus perks to toss around.
Next year we'll be getting flying mounts.

So here's the new FOTM

Required selections:
Spoiler

So your Taste of Hate and Vessel of Vinktar now have Surgeon's. Oh, and you have 15% increased movement and 20% increased attack speed up all of the time, because why not. Also, you don't need a Staunching flask anymore.

So you use some kind of CoC or archery conconction to kill everything on the screen within seconds. You don't quite get the crit of Assassin's Ambush, so you have to make due to perma-Lucky crits via Diamond flask, but in exchange you get 100% unique flask uptime - gladly taken.

Then you get one choice out of three options:
* 5% reduced elemental damage taken AND flasks gain a charge once every 3 seconds (HC option)
* 30% increased Poison damage, 30% increased Poison duration, +30% Chaos resistance AND always Poison on hit while a flask is up (the 7L SC option)
* 10% physical added as a random element, damage penetrates 10% elemental resistances (might as well ignore the first mod, because you're only taking this if you're elemental. still nice, especially for 2-3 element builds)

So hop on the Mathil Bladefall CoC train everyone, because unless it's nerfed to the ground it's here to stay. And if Bladefall is nerfed, then EK or something.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Should those poor FOTM saps with not a single ounce of creativity also ask NASA for a supercomputer before GGG nerfs it 2 weeks after ascendancy hits?

You're grossly overestimating the value of surgeon unique flasks considering any half assed crit build is going to clear through mobs with the force of billion stars, even more so with the power creep offered by these classes. Non-event bosses are also not going to last more than 8 seconds against a crit build.

Really, the most impressive part of this is going to be chaos conversion and poison abuse which should already be nerfed heavily by then.

Eh, we'll have to wait and see on that one. Nerf might be to the ground, but I would hope it wouldn't be.

I agree that CoC is already doing just fine, and can maintain flasks just fine -- against most monster types. It's the tougher map bosses and those event bosses you mention which have been kind of the Achilles' heel of those builds, because flask management becomes much more of an issue. I feel Pathfinder is nuts because it essentially removes this remaining weakness.

First: Dropping your ES by 20% of its maximum doesn't count as savage hit - a savage hit can only be scored by depleting 20% of maximum life - so no CI shinanigans possible here, sry.

Are you sure what you are saying is fact? With the current game mechanics in mind, savage hit sounds a lot like stun mechanics.

If you are not aware, Chaos Inoculation has a maximum life value of not 1. It is the value that you see if you get rid of the CI node, that is your maximum life. That is how stun mechanics are currently calculating how often you will get stunned when you have CI.

I don't see why Savage Hit would differ, but you could be right or wrong.

Actually looks (a lot) like the skill trees on the artifact weapons that WoW's upcoming Legion expansion has. Then again, there aren't all that many ways of doing something like this.

I have pretty mixed feelings about the sub-classes. The Templar totem stuff seems like it will simply obsolete my main character and make playing her as a totem user completely pointless. It diminished my interest in playing PoE right now at all, actually. But I guess I'll find some other build for her, depending on what the Scion Ascendancy bonus will actually be like.

Overall I'm not very hyped and feel somewhat discouraged. A lot of build freedom seems to just get killed off. All in the name of Marketable Features. :)
EXCITED!!!!! O.O

I always criticize GGG, but this time they have done an AMAZING work!!!! Ok, as usual the marauder is hated from them (IF you do x, you have y... IF you have w, you gain j.... IF you manage to kill z, you begn to k... and IF NOT????? -.-), but the new ranger and templar classes are BEAST!!!!! Ranger gives basically unlimited unique flask charges if you manage to wait some seconds between packs (or if you run like a chicken in a boss fight for a while).

And templar? Templar gains a portion of maximum mana as maximun ES!!!!! So, multiplied by es nodes O.O
