Life Gain on Hit vs. Life Leech
|
Why is it that I do not see builds using life gain on hit as a primary means of restoring life in combat? Despite life leech nerfs, it seems like every build I look at on the forums does not use life gain on hit.
I'd like to make a duelist using LGoH with very fast attack speed. This way, I can leech instantly without investing into Vaal Pact. I'm trying to come up with ideas for my next build. I'd like to use double strike with LGoH and I have a six link Astral Plate ready to use once I level up. Can anyone tell me if using LGoH into late game is viable, why there is a lack of LGoH build information, and comment on build ideas based on double strike? I'm happy to be corrected if any of my assumptions are wrong. Thanks! Last edited by natefactor07#6095 on Jan 14, 2016, 12:16:27 PM

I really liked the hp per sec you can generate with a +34 life on hit claw and Moltenstrike + Multistrike + GMP. The build has great damage, but it was lacking a bit of AoE size(I think I tried it before Heralds were introduced, so you might get better even better results with those :)).

Tried it. Claws help. Endgame viable? Can't say.
melee splash got a big boost in 2.1. It's much better now. Also, mana issues are not going to be a problem... any mana on hit or slight mana leach will keep you full. With a 6L you'll do fine. The main problem with LGoH is that it doesn't scale up. Your +5 LGoH will give you +5 at level 1 and +5 at level 99. You'll need more and more space/statpoints devoted to it to get the same performance as you level up. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Jan 14, 2016, 12:36:24 PM

One problem w/LGoH is hard fights without a lot of targets. Will have problems sustaining life.

The reason LGoH isn't widely used is, it sounds weak initially and it doesn't scale nearly as well.
Leech scales with everything that improves DPS; speed, increased damage, crit, hit rate, Leech rate, the works. LGoH only scales with speed and hit rate. If you're looking for the highest yield in the long run... But, once you have enough Life replenishment you have enough - and that point can be reached with LGoH. As mentioned, it's what Claws are real good at (guess what weapon type is rarely seen...). Last edited by Vipermagi#0984 on Jan 14, 2016, 12:43:54 PM

Great feedback, everyone.
Yeah - makes sense that LGoH doesn't scale like life leech does, although I'm wondering if the LGoH gem + LGoH from weapons + passive LGoH would be enough to mitigate this downside. I haven't tried it late game, so I don't know for sure. Maybe going crit would be a good idea for this build, since I know I'm going to need extreme attack speed to use LGoH, and more attacks = more crits. I have Maligaro's gloves, too. Thoughts? |

My other concern is, going for claws would probably be best as a Shadow, changing my original plans for going duelist to use armour and the 6L Astral Plate. Scion might also be viable. But as a Shadow, what would be some ideas to make LGoH viable, because I'd probably be using ES? I mean, LGoH and ES don't match, right? Or can they?

Crits are seasoning to this build... don't focus on them. You need attack speed and base health. Those should be your primary concern. A bit of evasion will help too, since it will space out the hits giving you time to recover. Also, you'll need to worry about stuns, since if you get stunned by a group, you're fried.
So focusing on "one-shotting" isn't what you want to do. |

LGoH might be viable where every hitpoint is covered with high resistances (evasion armor block and etc.). Energy shield in this case is quite opposite it has high number of hitpoints and low resistance, which means every recovered hitpoint is less meaningful, you need to recover more to sustain same incoming damage.
LGoH can be used on those armored/evasive life builds or low life blood magic for life replenishment for casting/attacking as it would be mana gain on hit. If u want to try your way, then its only one flask which would benefit from LGoH: |

All great points. I'm going to run some numbers in the passive tree later and see what I can get. Also I'll look into block to add to defenses as Andrius suggested. Thanks everyone!
