Too much AOE in POE?!

it's been extremely bothering me

the game has been on a huge power creep lately (and holy shit ascendancy)

the first few big increases to AoE were ok because in desync times not having good aoe meant you were basically shooting blanks, but theres no excuses now to not tone down shit.

unfortunately, people already have been spoiled by clearing speed that comes with AoE so of course they gonna cry if you take their toy away, so GGG keeps one-upping the AoE.

AoE used to also come with heavy downsides. now we have bladefall which is retarded, and that earthquake skill might take 3 screens with AoE gem+ some nodes.

I mean, really ? the game already became so much faster and rapid since 2013, but it's getting out of control to the point where all skills are starting to feel similar in playstyle with few exceptions.

Yet another thread that's all complaints and no solutions.

Yeah it was more to garner opinion.

I didn't really offer any potential solutions because I honestly think the game is too far along in development and GGG devs state regularly in interviews they don't want to do anything to upset all the crying timmys, which unfortunately seem to comprise the largest component of players these days:

I guess that is one of the perils of the F2P model but I understand why their hands are tied with this now, because it would come with a significant loss in playerbase.

Ah well, onto slashdiablo for me!
wait wait, ive got it!

a keystone that renders CoC, GMP, LMP, RoS, Chain, Fork and all AoE increases ineffective, and gives about 300 IIQ and IIR to compensate for the big slowdown in clearspeed. call it...'no moar pew pew lazorz'

haha - there is no way that thing would make it through the pits.

We're at the point of no return.

Look man, I'm totally on the side of too much AOE, mob density is ridiculous. But, imagine the alternative. What if most enemies had the health of a rare Knitted Horror, and mob density was cut by 95%? The game would feel drastically different, and I bet POE would lose players in droves.

There's a middle ground to be had, but without a gigantic (see above) change in how the game treats baddies, it would just creep right back up to where we are now.

In reply to what someone else said about Ascendancy, I really don't think the game is going to get much easier than it is now with that expansion. Surely GGG are fully aware of the power the subclasses represent and will tweak monster life/damage accordingly (knowing them, initially probably even on the side of making things too hard).

If anything, it might get to the point where playing the game without having the full six points for the subclasses will just be too frustrating, effectively making the Labyrinth obligatory for higher-level play.
