FUCK the new map levels, drops rates and exp curve and 2.1
" So I can have a challenge? Is this seriously how pathetic the arguments on these forums are? " Ah I see, you are a troll. Best off ignoring you then. " Elitist drivel. You are not more hardcore than he is and have no more right to play content than him. Flipping for currency, selling high priced legacy items or just hoarding wealth should have zero to do with availability of maps other than a cushion effect for bad RNG. With most people having seen zero T15 maps despite the fact that many could handle said maps is it any wonder why people make threads complaining about it? The real question is why do people like you plague these forums and endlessly spew crap "go play another game" for something that I don't think I've ever heard anyone outside of these forums and JD argue is the right direction for this game to go. Heck people even call me coddled for wanting content that can actually kill me. I haven't died in two levels and the only time I've played cautiously is on village ruin with a build that is not immortal. This boils down to a simple, repetitive discussion between many of the same people. " I'd like to emphasize that very few people make this argument and that those people exist solely on this forum. " It's illogical for GGG to make the grind less dangerous. Which is really what it comes down to for the 80%+ people on softcore where dying is the thing that should be keeping people from hitting 100, instead of that it's solely time. I, like many others want a game that's hard enough that you must play cautiously and for long periods of time to achieve your goals, instead the map changes effectively eliminated half of that to the majority of the people who are likewise driven. " No thank you satan. Exalts are plenty rare as it is and literally linking maps to exalts would be the biggest disaster in the Awakening thus far. " Which was stupid as hell and GGG made the right choice from moving away from there, up until recently when T15 maps literally go for exalted orbs. Fuck that. " There is also some power creep involved where the better tier of affixes, new uniques etc have made those previously moderately hard maps a walk in the park for many. " This experience is sadly quite common. Low level maps are more common than high level maps in high level maps. Don't even get me started on Zana, man they really did rip out the fun of doing her dailies except when it lands on unique maps. Last edited by shaunus#5724 on Jan 21, 2016, 2:30:12 AM

Good post @shaunus. I am too annoyed by now to even write that any more. Seems like a lot of people are, cause I do know a lot of people that are annoyed by map drops.
By now, I usually /abandon_daily my Zana daily, because it has become so incredibly pointless. Remove Horticrafting station storage limit.

" This, really. The argument that nobody should need or want high level maps because you can grind to 100 in Dried Lake is absurd. This view completely ignores that PoE is a video game, meant for recreation, for fun! In a game, fun usually is the result of one of two things: mechanically trivial, but stimulating content (like a good story) or challenging content. There is no challenge in running mid-tier maps when you're 90+. It's completely banal and requires almost no attention. When I map, I watch a show, talk on Skype, listen to an audio book or a workshop. It's almost automatic. It requires less attention than playing most Facebook games! The point is: Some of us care about the journey. Sure, if someone only cares about the destination, then really, just grind Dried Lake or T9 maps, then hit 100 and feel like you've accomplished something when really you did nothing that even a crudely coded bot could not have achieved. It's meaningless because there is no challenge. Anyway, great post, Shaunus; it reflects my thoughts on the topic well. | |

I'd say most of us who have been playing for a long while have built up a certain tolerance for lousy map drops and what people generally refer to as "streaks of bad luck" but there's a point where that tolerance is no longer sufficient to withstand the slowly building annoyance over the current state of map drops and the utter lack of being rewarded for rolling what intuitively should be a good map, or actually playing those really scary maps where you know dying is a very real possibility if you slip up or lapse in attention.
I'm at that point now where I*m about ready to put the game on the shelf and go do something that isn't quite as reminiscent of banging my head against a wall. But that's not what I want, I want to feel that the limiting factor to what content I can play is my skill, my gear, my build, not that the game decides to not drop an equal or higher tier map for fifteen maps in a row, which happened this weekend. Prior to 2.0 we were in a good spot map-wise. I could run the occasional 78, a few more 77s and could sustain 76s with a decent currency investment. If all your maps failed you at least had the consolation prize in Zana giving you a 76 to run as her daily quest, which felt apt and really good as it was a free map of the third highest tier. Propably my best mapping experience ever was from such a map during the first one-month flashback hc event, where she made me run a timed boss-killing Promenade along which way I spawned five or six beyond bosses all with 60% turbo and I thought I was dead several times over. Nowadays we're supposed to be happy when she gives us a 74, which is nine tiers below max and utterly irrelevant in terms of experience or map drops. Prior to last weekend I had a pool of ~20 T9, 5-6 T10, 5 T11 and 3 T12, and despite rolling ~100/30 on most T9/10 or higher/domination on T11/T12 I'm now down to 7 T9, no T10, 4 T11 and a single T12. My last three maps ran were a vaaled T11 with 157% quant/45%pack size which returned one T5 and one T6, then a bloody scary T12 with 171% quant and both bloodlines and nemesis rolls where I was down to a sliver of health several times and resulted in a single T11 drop, and now last a T11 with 122% quant/29% pack size that I slapped domination on with the grand result of four maps, at tiers 4, 8, 8 and 9 respectively. None of the maps returned enough drops to cover the costs for rolling them. Which would have all been fine if I actually occasionally got to experience that one high-tier map that drops multiple equal or higher, or has a carto box, but I haven't - ever. The current state feels unrewarding because it doesn't seem you can influence the map drops enough by well-rolled maps, the variance of he pseudorandom number generator either screws you over or it opens up the cornucopia of maps and if you're not one of the lucky ones standing underneath - you're gonna have a real bad time. " Clearly, so please teach me. |

" Yup. " We weren't in a good spot with variety, but, yeah, drops did feel more appropriate and rewarding for the investment considering the map pool. I had an easier time maintaining 76 (current tier 9) maps back then too. And is it just me or does Gorge hardly ever drop anymore? I certainly ran a lot more Plateaus in 1.3 as well, and I miss that. Great map design with Gorge and Plateau. Too many other maps are utter crap when you compare clear speed and fun factor, and this is the problem with added variety. Honestly I'd be happy to run Strand, Gorge, Plateau, or a few others all day if I could sustain the pool and if the xp was worth it at high levels. " BTW, as a side note, this is not true. The most common drops in maps are +0 and -1 drops. -6 maps are a lot less common. At least they were when I did statistics in 2.0, and I doubt the general shape of the drop curve has changed much since then. They just feel common ;). Remove Horticrafting station storage limit.

I have to agree with OP on this. Before 2.1 i could sustain T10-12 pool pretty consistently (without even using Zana mods), right now it feels really different, likely beyond RNG, (is there some documented nerf to map drops by GGG ? couldn't find something about it). On talisman i've got up to T12/13 (never had more than 2 of each tier though). And now i'm down to T8 (!!! :o) played my last two T9's some days ago. Feels that much absurd and consistent that i've hard time to believe it's just some bad streak/variance. it doesn't even feels much rewarding to burn a shitload of currency on maps in this regard atm.
