The main melee problem is that PoE follow a rule "kill or be killed". It means, you should kill enemies before they even have a chance to attack you - that's the safest way to play PoE. What you guys quoted was to regal a decent weapon to be able to master craft it to go through merc. You do usually find a regal by then, and since your self-found anyway I have no idea why you would be worrying about your "shitty weapon" when you need it to progress to maps. You would alt the weapon until you got a decent +- flat roll or % roll and then regal + craft the other one. In case none of you actually attempted to progress self-found. If you extra jewish you can use the rustic stash + blacksmith stone with a weapon to automatically roll %pdamage. You know powercreep is real when people believe that it's a problem that if you're not steamrolling through the entire game with 0 farming involved or effort even leveling the character. The leveling process should essentially be a steam roll and it is for a lot of more experienced players, even in a new league. The only change that GGG really need to do is to revert the rustic sash change so that people can craft decent leveling weapons while progressing rather then deal with a "subpar" leveling experience. Very few people actually enjoy the leveling process in PoE anymore, people want to get to where it matters, which honestly is act 4 dried lake. For those that do enjoy leveling and struggling, you don't have to upgrade a weapon as often and maybe it will save you currency in the end. ^^ good point i have no idea why they nerfed the rustic sash recipe then later releasing uniques so that people can run through areas throwing mines traps and fire totems with +2 levels.

(Farm ledge, act 1 boss, move into act 2 and then fellshire ect) Theses days anyone can blast through the game on the same speed that racers did when the game first came out. Leveling process IS powercreeped to basically running through the game, that wasn't always the case. Even "melee" which is everyone clamoring is ultra difficult isn't that difficult at all. Spend a little extra currency and you proceed on steamrolling the game anyway. Hell you can just use flame totem/whatever other attacks while deciding to be a melee character and steamroll your way to merc anyway. As of current we are complaining that melee takes minimal amounts of effort in leveling compared to ranged which takes 0 effort, and that's 'unfair". This isn't a standard we should be aiming for. Which is hardly the point because that has little difference between melee vs ranged builds anyway if we are talking about the point of the game where it's norm to steamroll the game. All range builds are way overpowered. Do way too much DPS for being safe.

Tutorial to get a good cheap melee weapon for low-mid level maps:
Step 1: Hit PoE Trade when you reach level 65 and buy 4-6 granite flasks with some alterations Step 2 Get an itemlevel 65 or higher base weapon of your choice from farming an appropriate zone. Qualitiy it up, transmute and alteration it until you get any + flat phys damage prefix on your desired weapon. Step 3 Perform the upgrading + flat phys damage recipe (augment + granite flask) until you get to tempered prefix. Step 4 Put an augmentation and then a regal orb on your new weapon (hope for % hybrid phys on the regal or attack speed). After that put a desired missing stat via master craft on it (%physical damage, attack speed, crit or accuracy if you need it) Step 5 Profit Average cost: 1 regal + 4-6 augmentation 1 + transmute + 30-40 alteration (depending on how much granits you have to buy or craft yourself) = ~4 chaos for a decent weapon Ranged will still be more efficiant regardless VS Melee - i only wanted to leave this here so anyone who thinks that getting a good early weapon is impossible hard for melee in a now league which makes melee not as expansive as they might have thought in the beginning.
