not necessarily, sometimes providers secretly change settings in - or the hardware your modem connects to.

means, the fault can also be your modem which doesn't work properly under the new conditions, exchanging it or it's settings can also help.

but you would also have to ask comcast in this case, do other comcast customers in your area also have problems currently?

age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
everyone here has problems with comcast. the degree of them or extent that people do anything about it is what varies.

for instance... a few years ago, our modem had an awful signal. outages every day... for about 2 months. i kept bitching, they replaced the lines to me from the tap twice... then replaced the tap twice. finally realized it was the hub (or whatever it was called) that provided service to many blocks.

i was the only one complaining. people had to be having outages and just didn't think to call comcast or hate dealing with comcast so much that they didn't bother with it.

comcast is why i know hell exists. it's at 17th and JFK in philly.

Have you power cycled your comcast modem recently?

How old is your modem?

Are you using WIFI or ethernet?

You can set the SSD to run in raid mode as a single drive.

power cycled yesterday, modem is pretty new (docsis 3.0), ethernet.

i think it was just unusually bad congestion/bad timing (coinciding with install of ssd). today, it's all been silky smooth. did a couple maps, no freezing/stutter at all. a few mild latency spikes, but nothing out of the ordinary (unlike the previous 3 days of freeze/stutter hell).

and i had no idea i could run in raid with a single ssd. i might give that a try and see if the ahci shows any performance increases. thanks for the tip!

i'll probably also just new a new mobo/cpu soon. been meaning to for a while now. that should take care of the worst bottleneck.

thanks, all. it's greatly appreciated.
