why is flamedash so horrible compared to whirling blades?
WB = infinite uses, FD= 3 uses then gotta wait
WB gets fortify, OP AF. FD gets shit i would use daggers instead but can't find any good spell damage ones. Hell, even wands with good spell damage rolls are too rare now. SO sick of phys damage wands then remember it doesn't affect EK or bladefall, such BS. If you are using the force to move a wooden stick around to deal physical damage, I got news for you, that is a fucking spell you are using there. This thread has been automatically archived. WB is overused with the introduction of fortify. Pretty much every caster is going dagger just so they cant get a free movement and fortify stick instead of relying on warp/dash/quicksilver.

The reason is that flame dash is intended for casters. GGG has a very strong bias against casters, so things like fortify, easy and numerous leech, and static mana costs for abilities get added to make melee more and more easy mode.
In the case of flame dash, in was introduced at the same time as the nerf to lightning warp + faster casting + reduced duration (now less duration). Without flame dash most casters wouldn't even have a viable movement skill for atziri (lighting warp is unreliable for her flameblast now). Bottom line though, if you play a caster, forget about wands and use a dagger. Whirling blades + fortify is the quickest and most responsive movement skill, that comes with the benefit of bringing damage values back to pre 2.0 levels. Keep PoE2 Difficult.

ugh moved to feedback and suggestions. I did not have "feedback" I asked a general question. It wasn't a gameplay question (e.g., "How to I use FD?"), it was a general question about why this seems lackluster (like perhaps I am missing something about it) compared to WB

They need to remove cooldown at least it's terrible.
As a spell caster I use double daggers for fortify/movement as discussed which is no cool-down , give you Insane crit if you use platinum Kris' with double crit rolls, and 20% all dam mitgation. WTF does flamedash give? 3 moves. So even if they removed cooldown the dagger/forify setup would be better. I switched from Flame Dash to Leap Slam for one reason: stuns. If you're surrounded and taking shit, there's a chance you'll get stunned while trying to flame dash away. Meanwhile, you can't get stunned while Whirling Blades and Leap Slam's animations are playing, which makes them far more reliable movement skills.
I guess they could start to improve Flame Dash by giving it something ridiculous like a 0.2sec cast time or outright saying you can't be stunned while casting it. IGN: Ikimashouka, Tsukiyattekudasai, DontCallMeMrFroyo
