Coop within the same league only?

The idea of playing HC and turn into softcore when I die appeals to me, unless I cant play with softcore friends until I die, or play with HC friends when I die.

Is this the case with leagues? Shuould it be?

I can see several league possibilities where it wouldn't make sense to have two or more leagues play in the same game, but when it comes to HC, IronMan and normal softcore. Why not?

If the mobs are the same difficulty in hardcore and normal leagues I can't see why they wouldn't make it possible. If there were a league where the mobs you fight are tougher then I think it's fairly safe to say they shouldn't be able to group with normal league players.

EDIT: Just read the article on leagues and it says this "Characters can only see and interact with other characters in the same league." So I guess you can only play coop with players in the same league

Well, that sucks. You can play HC/Iron man with your friends with the same set of chars and then if anyone of your char die, you cant go on as a group.

The good part of it is ofc that difficulty and such can be rebalanced etc to the current league.

Still, why must HC be a league ... or Ironman for that matter. IT seems you could just apply the character changes and everyone coudl play together.

Because the idea of hardcore mode is to make game harder. Hardcore players are (should be) more cautious. You can not let the group of 'softcore' players protect 'hardcore' one.

Just create 2 characters.

That wud ruin the game if those leagues wud be in same game.People want to play hardcore cause it requires more skill and planning before acting.

What stops you creating character to each league?

Whats stops you having a HC in default League too? As an option, not replacing HC league.
Because you could just tag along. Also, GGG don't want items being traded between leagues, as this would ruin economies. It's hardcore for a reason and should stay that way. Play on both SC and HC if you want to play with friends.

This still applies! I hear no valid argument against, really.

Please note the requirement - that you permachoose a league upon char creation still, with the additional option to create a HC/Iron Man/Whatever char. I.E. you can create a HC locked to Default (softcore) League.

I think your idea segregates the community and economy far too much. It also defeats the whole purpose for choosing a league for a certain play style in the first place. Every player elects to be a softcore, hardcore player or any of the other specialty leagues because they enjoy that one specifically. Softcore has a different rule set from hardcore. The ideologies behind having either one life or multiple lives directly conflict with one another, and therefore cannot coexist.

On the "Leagues" page GGG clearly states their reasoning for keeping specialty leagues separate from the standard default league:

Characters can only see and interact with other characters in the same league. In this way, each one is its own isolated economy. The default league is extremely large and hence acts as a general economy for all characters that were not created in a specialist league. All characters in a league have access to the same shared stash pages.
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
