offtopic here but I'm neutral when it comes to this shit but when I go outside and do job stuff seeing people fuck each other up because their trump supporter or Hillery just makes me wonder.

The point is that we wouldn't be affirming/denying each others lifestyles through legislation. Find a middle ground between these two statements:

Abortion is a legal constitutional right
Abortion is literally murder

...and then realize that *all* of our politics fall in that same black/white dichotomy. Seriously, I'm fucking done with the compromise and "cooperation". It always boils down to "my guy won, time to completely wipe out your agenda". There is no middle. Let's be done.

Your politics are black and white because politicians present it that way. They present it that way because they are skilled at propa.. pardon me, PR and know people like to have things laid out nice and simple, even if reality is anything but. Your entire political system looks like a 'who has the best red herring' competition to an outsider. Not saying it's better in my country (it's not) or in most others.

What I see in the US right now is people getting their knickers in a twist over relatively minor issues in the big scheme of things while both parties continue pushing their corporate agendas and largely ignoring some very real, long-lasting issues which affect the entire world because doing something about them would be detrimental in the short term. And hey, they're elected for four-year terms, who gives a fuck about what's going to happen 20 or 30 years down the road? Ultimately, both the democrats and the republicans are two sides of the same coin and the problem is the coin itself.

Forgive me if I sound overly harsh, again - not saying this is a unique US problem, neither pretending I'm some kind of final authority and have it all figured out. That's just how I see it.

The lack of common ground is a side effect of having a problem that isn't properly defined. We have no definitive decisions from the courts, the scientists, the philosophers or religions on when life begins and ends, and what constitutes being human vs merely being alive.

Without these, we are all arguing over how to divide the square root of negative one by zero.

No one wants to come to the table to try and figure it out either, which is why it fell into the courts lap to make some kind of ruling.

What most people don't realize is that all of their opinions and beliefs and politics won't matter one iota in the long run. There's a long term decision coming on this whole process and all the things people *think* matter, won't.

Humanity only has one real problem to solve. (and neither campaign addressed it at all) If it doesn't solve that problem, the problem will solve humanity.

That's what I was saying. Sadly, I don't think we're even capable of solving it with the current economic and political system. Not even close.

What we need:
- a shift of values from consumerism, mercantilism and materialism to sustainability and collectivism
- long-term planning and some difficult decisions which with unpleasant short-term side effects
- a shift from a growth-oriented economy to a preservation-oriented one
- capable, informed leadership which looks at the long term and the big picture

What we have:
- a system where everyone gets to say who's going to run the country, even if they can't spell their name right and are completely unqualified to have an actual opinion
- a system where you have to win a popularity contest to run the country (so it's rarely in their interest to speak the truth)
- a system where the guys elected to run the country can only do so for a few years (so they only think short-term)
