Donald Trump

Ted Cruz didn't bend the knee. "Vote your conscience" and shit. He sacrificed his political career for the NeverTrumps. RIP in peace Rato.

TL;DR Ted is snek

His career is only "sacrificed" if Trump wins. If not, he gets to finger wag at the base with a million I-told-you-so's while arguing for his vision of the party.

Spoiler
One small problem in this dream "Trump loses" scenario? He's still Ted fucking Cruz.
On a separate track, Pence's speech made me immediately wonder how a Kasich-Pence ticket would be faring right now, just because of their superficial similarities. Two Midwestern governors would have a lot going for them:

Neither of them are Trump.

Spoiler
Shouldn't need an explanation.

They can credit themselves for the good of their states, while blaming the bad things on the Obama admin + shitty congress.

Spoiler
So every governor will tout how they balanced their state's budget (they are required to do so by federal law), but for some reason, people seem to love hearing about it anyway. Between 'job creation', unemployment, wage growth in a random sector, standardized test scores for <insert age group here>, or any other one of hundreds of categories, it's trivial to find something your state was in the top 5 of.

On the other side of the ledger you get to pin all the bad stuff on things outside of your control, which, realistically for governors is most things. Pinning the bad on Obama is probably not the best route right now since his approval ratings are just north of 50%, and were even better not too long ago. Pinning them on 15% approval rating congress is a pretty safe bet though.

While they're both uber establishment, they get to play the 'Washington Outsider' card. A pretty good card to play in the current political climate.

Spoiler
They'd make the case, even if it's not compelling to half, or even most voters (Kasich was in Washington for quite a while, Pence spent time there too). It would sway some, and hell, Hillary said in the Dem primary that she's not establishment because of her vagina so...the argument for Kasich/Pence would be a more compelling argument than that.

It would feel like an actual ticket of like minded individuals instead of Trump Circus picking a super conservative to shore up the base.

Spoiler
Yes, even though Pence is way to the right of Kasich, they have SO much else in common that it would overshadow their gap of ideology score.

They could truly take advantage of labeling themselves centrists while contrasting Kasich's centrist governing with Hillary's trek left due to the race with Bernie.

They could take advantage of being pretty scandal free - not even by Hillary standards (the new, record setting low bar in a profession filled with people trying to lower the bar).

Spoiler
Pence had the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and a few other minor ones that would be a much bigger deal if he were leading the ticket. We've been watching Biden gaffe it up for 8 years though, I don't think this will have a big impact. Instead they have Trump, who seems interested in saying scandalous things as a parlor game that should be played nightly.

Newt's teleprompter proves that Ted went off script:

I'd like to be angry but I gotta say that takes some massive balls. Still, he holds the Bible high, he puts it down, and then he lies...

Also I read somewhere that Kasich was actually Trump's #1 VP candidate by a mile, but Kasich wasn't even open for discussion about it. At least he sticks to his principles.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Hey...is this thing on?

That ties in neatly with Trump's tweet:

@realDonaldTrump

Wow, Ted Cruz got booed off the stage, didn't honor the pledge! I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway. No big deal!

Ah, well. Now I suspect that the Texas AG might want to have as little "come to Jesus" moment with Cruz about his bona fides... =^[.]^=

Again, Trump misses out on a golden opportunity to look good. His tweet should have read:

Saw Ted's speech early - knew this was coming. No big deal! I will guarantee and protect EVERYONE'S right to free speech under the 1st Amendment!!
That 1.5 hour speech resulted in me having a 1.5 hour erection.

Wish I could fast forward to the election, can't wait to see who 'merica picks.

Sanders vs Kasich would have been so much more compelling - the fallout from this election is going to result in both parties looking like what those two want anyway.
Appeals to authoritarianism, strongman cult of personality, "only I can fix these things" (not, WE can fix these things together), painting the US as a wasteland of lawlessness, otherism, empty inflammatory rhetoric.

This man is fucking terrifying.

No policy specifics to be found, just "I will fix them". I loved, btw, that he will protect LG...........BTQ people from terrorists, like the GOP platform hasn't been their #1 problem for decades.

Also funny that each representative boasted that their state was doing great, adding jobs, economy booming... but the US economy is somehow crippled and in need of repair?

Hows that work?
