sweetaction, Any chance you could post a few links showing the path you would go via leveling. (Like 1-20, 20-40, 40-60, etc)

sure. Keep in mind, leveling this character would be a huge pain if you get CI too early, and since your not doing life you want the survivability as early as possible. Personally im a very cautious player and would probably make sure i have some of the gear ready for this character prior to starting him.

very important things to note:

1. resolute technique is somehting you want to get early as it will be huge boost to damage and will help you level faster.
2. once you have RT you really want to focus on survivability. I didnt show getting the shield passives until later but if your having a hard time getting your ele resist up its a great way to pick up 30 points of ele resist early.
3. i would map over to both ghost reaver and CI before taking CI and then make sure i have unantural calm/ the other energy shield passives first then use 1 respec point or wait till i have two points to place and grab both CI and GR at the same time. (also make sure you have VP before going to that side of the tree.
4. Inner force owns face so you might want to get it earlier depending on how your doing/ how yoru playing.
5. US & IR are great passives but have HUGE point sinks to get them. Ideally you want them mid game but again depending on how you are doing i might swap it around and get them later.

TLDR
BIG note you realistically probably wont get more than say 92 points 3/ difficulty from bandits and 5 skill points per difficulty from other quests I think it actually totals 17 skill points from quests. lets say you hit level 75 (very doable) thats 92 points so ideally it doesnt matter what order you get everything as long as you prioritize survivability and get what you need when you need it. at level 75 with 92 points it should be about this ideally: (IMHO)

Again these are all my opinions, and as such remember its all about the journey not the destination. this build is interesting BECAUSE there are so many different solutions to your defenses and they dont need to be done in a given order. Also the build is heavily influenced by gear

Epic. Thank you for the quick, and detailed, response.
Been doing this build for awhile now, people are always amazed by it or going WTF IS GOING ON!! lol.
level 46 atm in cruel in hardcore, still alive.

my Core gems = dominating blow, added fire dmg, melee physical, increased duration, life leech

Passives = grace, hatred.

My dps atm is 3k and my record for killing and keeping minions is 30+. I pretty much 1 hit everything and 3 hit rares/bosses even in a group of 6. My problem with the build atm is defense. The minions block alot of attacks for me, but when I do get hit I have to be a bit careful. I got max all res, but need to find away where physical attacks don't hurt too much. My hp is around 2k, could be way better, but not finding the gear.

Whats your passive tree? Sounds like your not doing an ES CI build your going hybrid. I would agree defense is the thing to focus on for this play style.

I don't want to post my current build as there are some mistakes and I need to do more testing. When and IF I make it to end game, I will make a new thread with videos about my build. I have a lot of ideas on how to make it better. As I type this I am theory crafting and I going to rebuild my character.

As I said, I am not happy with my defense ATM, melee is very dangerous and this area needs to be perfect. Also trying to decide if i should go blood magic or mana. ATM I am using blood magic but I soooo badly want to use hatred and using it with blood magic is also what is making my build atm very sketchy. even with max lvl reduced mana and 4k hp, hatred will take away 840 of my health, not cool.

Anyway, I have some work to do :P
I'm level 55 now. My plan is to switch to CI at 59. I have some decent gear waiting for me that adds up to around 800 or so es without nodes. I figure any amount will give me more safety then my measly 1300hp pre-CI. I tried to take as much hp as I could whilst not straying too far off course that I would have to spend regrets. The only problem pre-CI (and still will be the biggest threat post CI) is unblockable unmitigated damage from chargers and annoying groups of very fast very strong physical attack packs. Archers are an annoyance but there's a few skill choices to deal with all these weaknesses.

Getting the node to raise your max resist and making the trip up to the Templar shield cluster is pretty clutch for this build. If you can manage to allocate points into it, it offers 30 resist to all when shield is equipped, 12% spell block, extra block chance and extra defense. Late into the build I think it will be good to augment using a shield. Trying to find a way to shave some points off to get up to the es/shield cluster also, but there's a lot to get before then so that might be real late endgame.

Are you planning to reconstruct an already existing witch that has most of these nodes already? If not...are you planning on ONLY equipping facebreaker after a certain level (60's?). If no to both these questions, read on. :)

First, you probably will never get 120 points. That's not as feasible as say a 80-90 point build.

Secondly, if you actually do manage to get up there in levels, you will probably have maxed resist without all those wasted points in resist nodes. I assume you would have a great deal of wealth to invest in such a high character that most of your gear would have optimal stats including resist.

Third, the beginning of the build would look nothing like what it looks like now. Basically you would have to try and hustle your witch over to the marauder nodes and Resolute Technique asap. Your life pool is going to be sooo low at the beginning, using a melee energyshield build from the VERY beginning will be super painfully slow and not very efficient. At the very least, you will want to play as a tank witch with some life nodes until you actually get some ES gear worth equipping. If not, probably as a low dps caster then switch to facebreaker gear when ready.

-Why Celerity?

Instead of getting the shield mastery cluster near the reaper keystone, I'd go for the Energy shield/shield cluster at the top by zealots oath. It offers some block and energy shield instead of just block. By the way....why ZO? I doubt you'll have regen gear that would justify it.

Depending on planned gear for such a theoretical build, I don't even think its worth getting iron reflexes.

Other than a few minor skill points here and there that could be used elswhere, looks like this would have a LOT of Energyshield lol...good luck :P
Finally made it to the level I wanted to be at. My ES is not so impressive and my gear slots need an overhaul so I can configure the skills I want with the right combination. As you can see my skill slots are all over the place. The problem is ES gear is super hard to get preferred color slots.

The build is going to take alot of patience seeing that I'm not too wealthy and I can't make/buy 5L and 4L anytime I want. Most items are either self found or bought from people spamming the trade channel so I haven't used all outlets available to me to improve just yet.

For now, here's what I'm running with on my CI Facebreaker:

I have atleast 10 rings that all have nice stats but none are the "holy grail" that include all the properties I need. I needed to boost my INT also so that was taken in account.

Fun fun build. But the style of play is unique. The skill gems in there right now are just what I'm using to test certain areas in act 1 merciless for damage and survivability. I still need to incorporate Temporal Chains, Frenzy and perhaps Dominating Blow and Summon spells. I feel these skills I just listed is going to make all the difference in the world when it comes to survival.
