What is the cap on physical damage reduction?

I ask because I have a marauder with 11,368 armor, who runs determination and endurance charges. I typically cap out at 90% with this, but I noticed that when I pop a granite flask (increasing armor to >40,000), my reported reduction remains 90%

I know it's only an estimate anyhow, but I was surprised that drinking a granite flask (and mine has an additional 75% armor during flask effect, by the way) seemed to have no effect.

Is this stat indeed capped at 90% and not 95%?

(Because I'm still getting hurt pretty bad, despite 75/75/75/75 resistances, lol.)

Yeah, 90% is the physical reduction cap.

Thanks. Too bad it isn't in the wiki (that I could find, anyhow).

Ah, right, included it on 'damage calculation' page a week or so ago but it's gone now, the last contributor removed it when reworking the page and probably forgot to put it back later.

I checked the following two places, where it would probably be appropriate to include it:

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Armour
http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Damage

Damage page is a bit too general and armor page is only about that specific mechanic, damage calculation page describes the whole defense process so it would be the logical place.

I'll defer to your judgment, but as someone who actively went *looking* for that information, those are the only two places I could think of to look.

It didn't even occur to me that there might be a page labeled "damage calculation." Even if it had been there, I would not have found it and would have come to the forums looking for help.

A new player is even less likely to do so, or to be able to find the info.

I think it's ideal for it to be where people can actually find it, and preferably in more than one location.

Edit:
P.S. Do a search for "damage reduction" on the wiki and see what pages come up first. Because that's where people are going to look for information on damage reduction. ;)

Yeah, I agree the whole set of articles could be distributed better and damage calculation isn't a very intuitive place to search but the whole thing would need a decent amount of work to do properly. Or I suppose 'damage calculation' page could just be renamed to 'receiving damage' and linked in a few places with 'armor' and 'damage' pages.

That's because the % reduction from your character sheet is based on the average damage of a monster of your level. Some monsters deal a LOT more damage (the huge skeletons are a prime example) and armour is less efficient for large hits.

I've compiled (I think) all the different physical damage mitigation methods in a spreadsheet so you can actually see what the difference is for a bit more or less armour. The more you have, the less efficient it becomes and you are better off stacking other mitigation methods such as Arctic Armour and Fortify. You can find the post here together with the mitigation formula's. If you just want the spreadsheet, it's in my sig (one-shot calculator).

Incidentally, are you a mod there? Or is it like wikipedia, where anyone can register and improve things? (Forgive my ignorance.) I've noticed a number of typos and such while browsing, that I was unable to fix, unlike while browsing wikipedia.

@didii
Awesome, thanks. I'll check out your research.
