I never understood why people say Metallica sold out, but then again, I'm too young for that shit.

After all this time, I start to understand how people like Wretch must feel (even if I don't agree with their viewpoints).

but we all know they didnt. They consider it a courtesy to put most of the lore in voluntary side objects and skippable dialogue. Which is very nice for a click fest but now and then we get threads like these which make clear either the lore needs to be less obscured now that Act 4 draws on do much of it, or click fest type people post before doing their research.

Neither are big enough problems for GGG to justify addressing from a financial aspect, I expect.

You know, you can make things confusing and weird, like in Silent Hill, too. So people get curious.

I don't think they need to spend more, they just need to signal there is a little more out there (like in Diablo 1, let the imagination fill the gaps).

Like it or not, they have taken the right decision about it, mostly. Not a lot cared about lore in ARPGs, even if Diablo made a decent job at it.

My favourite game on the series was the first (Have you seen my daughter? What is going on with this city? Like...the whole game...), and most people remember fondly the second one. God knows how much time I've spent trying to understand the mythology of the place and what the hell is going on, rather than fixating on the personal demons of the characters (yes, they are interesting).

Who cares about why D1 did things that way or who would care about it? Sometimes you just have to do things different to the rest to make a point. Also, games like Dark Souls (if I understood well) got away with the same thing, so it's not a lost battle.

The whole reception of Beyond, lorewise, it's a good signal for that (see Qarl's comments in the challenge postmortem development manifesto, and from other people too). People like that there is more outside to discover, the mistery...

Ah Diablo 1- We didn't have fancy six links, or four links or even more than one colour socket. We had one red gem that we had to shove in our forhead and we were glad for it. The lore was a bit spartan, but it's nice to be able to play a game and have the lore an optional part that you can dig into if you like.

It's a personal preference if lore should be explicit or not. I'd rather have deep over flashiness when it comes to story, explicitness is not that needed.

PoE would be best served being a little more explicit right now, though, while not being mandatory (skippable dialog, scattered texts and scarce dialog work well for that). Most stuff is just hidden. I wonder how confused some people were about act IV, :P

I don't think the graphic novel is needed, given that you paid attention to all the clues.

Again, the failure of PoE is not making people to wonder what's out there, not the lack of good lore.

We need something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88Ep8SH9VxA, so people start to wonder what the fuck is actually going on. They need to be madly confused.
