" All of which my post makes NULL. If you get logged, it is on you only. There are hundreds of free and easy to use programs. Granted that while the more secure a PC becomes the less usable it is in terms of functionality. Still, your "Warcraft" post makes no sense and screams ignorance (lack of knowledge). Making all kinds of gains. |

" Some things, like the exp/hour calculator and the clock, can't be web-based since the whole point of them is to be accessible via the game itself. I will release the source for the clock soon (even though it's like 5 lines long), but I can't release the exp/hour code. This is because the code involves reading the game's memory to obtain the experience values, and I don't want to help anyone along with this kind of thing. While my intentions are good, others may have other ambitions and could use this code as an example on how to read other in-game data to make some "illegal programs". |

" I think he was just supporting your statement about why people worry about keyloggers. It's the same people that those things catered to. |

" Look, this is going to come off as sounding harsh, but you have to realize the mistake you are unknowingly making, so you don't make it anymore. If you truly feel this way about a program you make, then you shouldn't released the program in the first place. Period. Anyone that cares to obtain your methods, will do so, with, or without the source code being provided. Case in point, you made your programs in AutoIt. I don't think you fully understand what that actually means. You say you don't want to release source code, but you essentially already have. It takes about 5 seconds to get the source code. It's not always going to be a 100% match, but it's more than enough typically to do exactly what you are saying you want to avoid. Here's the source to your Clock program, since you said you'd release it: http://pastebin.com/ezjrytaT (just so you know I'm not making this stuff up). I'm not going to bother posting the ExpCalculator because it's 2013. People have been using AutoIt to read games memory forever now. There's nothing new here. If someone were so inclined to find offsets for certain PoE specific pointers, there's already sites that have them. If there weren't, congratulations! You have just unknowingly given everyone everything they need. All it takes is one person to decompile/reverse a program, an algorithm, or a process. Once they share it, then everyone knows and you have essentially done exactly what you were trying to avoid. That's why the "I'm not going to release source, so people can't misuse it" argument is bogus and you need to rethink your intentions if you feel that way. If you would have said, "I'm not releasing source code because it's my work and I don't want to release source code", then that's perfectly fine. It is your work after all. However, you should understand the fact that anyone who wants your methods, will more than likely get them. If you are factoring morality into the equation, and you feel you are doing the morally right thing by not releasing source, then you shouldn't be releasing the program in the first place. |

So, your two programs can't both be used at once? Bottom line, they both use the same hotkeys for resetting data and closing :)

Would be nice to hear an answer of one of the officials :) About these programs and about any other programs. Not only about it can be a keylogger but also about if it's forbidden or not to use such utilities.

Can't be arsed myself but this should have the answer to your question on whether it's legal or not:

So, someone can get banned for using an out-of-game clock??
Wow. That seems kind of silly, heavy handed, and over-bearing. Heck, that was one of the first mods to World of Warcraft before Blizzard added an in-game clock and calendar. Quite handy when you can set an alarm for X mins, say 5 or 15, and play for a quick moment. If I use my iPhone to manually set a 15-min timer every time I enter a new instance is that bannable too?? IMO the better solution would be for the client to display the "Instance Timer" on the top left ALONG with an option to show the Current Real-Time like most other MMOs do One of the primary reasons WOW became so popular was that (almost) anyone could provide legal mods. Blizzard was able to take the best ideas and incorporate them into the native client after they had been hashed out. Gamers will happily extend the UI if you give them a chance! They just need some clear and _sensible_ rules for what is and is not allowed. A blatant "no to everything" means you WILL miss out on some great ideas / gems. Now, on the other hands I could easily see how a 3rd party tool reading the client.exe's memory (such as XP/hour) is definitely an unfair advantage. That is, and should be a strict no-no. Some official clarification between throwing the baby out with the bath water, over reacting over trivia display information and intrusive memory probing would be greatly appreciated. There is a reason why player-created mods spawned _new_ games such as: Counter-Strike, CTF, Team Fotress, Tower Defense, etc. One just needs to take a look at all the mods for Minecraft to see clever and creative new gameplay. Pity that PoE is not interested in making the game more player friendly. ;-( |
