Back to Oriath?

If we actually did manage to kill it hypothetically, would the gems, and also the Witch(pre-Wraeclast) lose their powers?

Also I guess that means old bone face might return with "XXX was merely a setback..."

It could be interesting to find out, but hopefully the creative minds behind the story won't use this. World of Warcraft destroyed enough of Warcraft's storyline with that...
I do hope we eventually venture out of Wraeclast , I'd love to see Oriath/Theopolis, but in a far future....like...act 9 or something! (should such thing exist).

As for Wraeclast there's still lots to explore i believe. My bet for a5 would be north of highate on snowy mountains..just guessin' thou'. We also haven't seen any Ezomyte civilization yet, and im willing to believe free Ezomytes still live somewhere.

I know everyone skips the quest, but don't forget that we made some weird hybrid of Fairgraves, the All Flame, and Chitus. That could make for a pretty formidable act boss.
We fight to delay the end because it's the means that matter.
I dont think we actually killed Malachai at the end of A4.
I think we just destroyed one of his mortal forms.
Maybe his spirit is still living on, stored in random objects around Wraeclast like a liche's phylactery and Act 5 will be us wondering around the greater world attempting to find and destroy the pieces before he reforms a physical form.
Went SSF in Delve and I'm never going back.
Story is playing out like a cosmic horror. There might be a return to Oriath, but I find that unlikely since the Catacylsm seems limited to Wraeclast so far and to travel to Oriath would mean dropping a lot of Lovecraftian themes if they abandoned the Catacylsm-based environment.

I guess they could suggest that the Cataclysm made it's way to Oriath and continue from there, but that also seems unlikely to me. I think it's more likely that with the discovery of the Beast we will discover other similar God-like creatures. The exile's path is to conquer these Gods and become one him/herself. That's right in line with a cosmic horror.

But yeah, the whole thing with virtue gems, embedding them in people to create gemlings of higher power, The Beast's existence and control over reality... all very Lovecraftian. The plot we're reading and seeing with the focus on saving Wraeclast and getting revenge on the hierarchy is more of a subplot to that. I'm pretty sure the end result of the story will be focused around the exile gaining the power of these godlike creatures as you destroy them and learn more about them as well as virtue gems.

At the end, Malachai and the Beast are so linked I believe when it is said we killed Nightmare I think all we did was kill it the same way you can kill a conversation about an idea. Malachai was trying to turn that conversation into his slogan. We shut him up...

The idea remains...

I think that's pretty much how it will go.

Everybody who tinkered with the beast's thaumaturgy eventually turns evil or so it seems. The Vaal, starting out as a powerful but peaceful civilisation who helped new settlers, turned their own culture into a nightmare with their power, culminating in queen Atziri. She slaughtered her own people by the thousands and finally the entire Vaal culture ended in a violent cataclysm.

Atziri was guided by her thaumaturgist Doryani, similar to the way Malachai "advised" first Chitus and later Voll. We all know how that turned out for them.

So either Malachai will rise again in a different shape, somebody long forgotten might take his place (Doryani perhaps?) or somebody we don't even know about yet. There are a couple of notable people from the Purity Rebellion I expect to meet, sword on hand of course. We already met Geofri, Voll and Koam and that's not the complete list.

Still haven't seen Doryani's Cradle, yet, either. =0[.]o=

You know if Diablo 1 hadn't already done it how the ending of PoE would really have gone...

Nessa is already hinting at it after you kill Merveil I think. "What have you become when even monsters fear you" or something along this lines.

So far everybody has succumbed to the darker side of thaumaturgy and the power it gives, except maybe Dialla. But even her motives are questionable. Sure, we haven't see her do anything really bad and she was very helpful but we were an important piece in her agenda to take revenge on Malachai. So, while I do like her, it's too early to place her in a category like good or bad imo.

Maybe your gear and gems should melt into your flesh at level 100 and you will become the new Nightmare.

We should rule Oriath, now that Domboy is ded.
I think act 5 might just revolve around the beast, its true nature and the discovery of its name and purpose. Story then could spin of in different ways, from trying to truly killing it, to discovering that there are multiple beasts etc.
