Themed Hideout Competition Submission Thread!

Theme: Hidden Shrine.

Set within an overgrown cave, you emerge from the waypoint at the center of the caveand make your way around to the fork in the path. One path leads to the shrine (map device), while the other path leads you to where the Forsaken masters reside. Throughout the hideout a few tricks have been used to give various effects. The main one used it the Haku rocks that are used to turn the Elreon Library tileset into a cave tileset. Trees, bushes and grass were used to give a abandoned or secret look, while also giving it a very overgrown and ancient look. This blends in with the shrine itself. The freestanding candle stands (Candellebrums?) purchased from Elreon were clipped into the rocks surrounding the walls in order to give the effect that the candles themselves were placed on the rocks or placed in small grooves on the walls. This gives the whole cave the look that it is a sacred area and candles have been left for worship reasons, as well as providing a nice orange glow to the interior of the cave.

Account: SackOfDeath. Hideout created in standard league.

The entrance of the hideout from the waypoint. Made to look as though you emerge from a pathway from below and emerge into the main body of the Hideout/cave.

The fork in the path, located to the right of the waypoint. left path leads to the shrine, right leads to masters.

The path on the way to the main shrine, Tora resides here in a small nook behind a stone wall. she also has a couch to lie on. Tora is away from the rest of the masters as she is the caretaker and overseer of the Sacred shrine.

The Hidden Shrine itself. Formed from several overgrown arches and featuring a sacred tree in the center. The blessing font was used to create a beam of light above the sacred tree.

The Shrine with portals to maps activated. The portals fall perfectly into the arch gaps. The stash can also be seen on the left near the rocky walls.

The center area down the right path. Three masters reside here, Haku within the top path, Elreon to the right, and Zana down the bottom. Within this small crossroads two of the crafting benches are also located.

This is Elreon's room. Here we can see he has a table with books piled up next to it for his research (the table is one of the crafting benches cleverly blended in as well :P)

The last screenshot is another of the shrine but with item labels enabled to show the location of stashes as well as crafting benches

"I have dreamed a place beyond those barren mountains that have held the nightmare within. I have dreamed a place that lie hidden in the shadows of a valley submerged in twilight. I have dreamed a place that bear witness to a slumbering God. And I have seen the corruption that have seeped in. I saw those heretics Dominus, and Piety enter the sacred temple, prayed at the God's forgotten relics, and worshiped in his benevolence. If only he knew what he had invited into his domain... They had sought to gain power, more than they could carry in their tainted minds. What he saw as awoke from his eon sleep was not what he had foreseen. Instead he saw the malformations forming in the hearth of his home, the dead rising in the beckoning of the darkness that had swallowed his shrine whole.
In rage and agony he smited the abominations and swept the land in a blade of fire. Dominus and Piety fled and sealed the tunnel behind them, the shrine once more forgotten and the God once more slumbered.
But he gave me my mission, to find his refuge and cleanse the land of corruption." -Elreon

The Slumbering God's Forgotten Refuge
With the help from Zana, Elreon had finally found the Slumbering God's forgotten shrine. Here now lies the exiles resting from their battles with Malachai.

The Entrance to the Hideout

The portal, opened by Zana, allowed the exiles to take refuge here. Leo has his quarters at the bottom left where he orders the exiles daily tasks.

The Train

Ordered by Dominus and executed by Piety, they mined through the mountain. The train that was once bustling of energy now lie dormant waiting to be turned on again. The cargo left undisturbed as the sacrificial corpses lay rotting.

The Entrance to the Shrine

As the exiles entered the Shrine, the dead bodies of the Legionnaires still reside decomposing in the blood soaked rubble. The glowing embers that was once a remembrance of holiness now tainted by the corruption, now take the color of crimson. The Legionnaires flags still remain proud and vigilant, remind all of who had came here, yet unaware that their army had abandoned them.

The Tri-section

The Tri-section is the place of respite for Vagan and Catarina. Between them lie an alter decorated of the Slumbering God's relics. Flowers are beginning to sprout from the blood tainted rubble. To the top right is the actual shrine where past worshipers have prayed to the God, now it has been defiled by Dominus and Piety's sacrifices. To the bottom left is the refuge for the exiles.

The Altered Shrine

This Shrine has now been defiled by desecrated sacrifices of the poor souls that have been killed by the Legionnaires.

The Refuge's Hallway

Safe from the outside world, the exiles relax in this small gathering, the book shelve rummaged by early pilferers has been slowly upgraded with new text.

The Refuge Chamber

The exiles have not cleaned the chamber from past works, as the corpses in the pit still burn from the corrupted nature of the ritualistic murder. The torture devices that have remained intact are being studied by Zana and Vorici (Vorici enjoying the research much, much more).

The Refuge Chamber Part 2

The Legionnaires have left the supplies as they ran from the God's awakened wrath leaving behind an immeasurable amount of resources that the exiles could use.

Hoping to never awaken again to see such sacrilege, the God slumbered once more... and forevermore.
I have yet lived to see a man wise enough to be ignorant and one foolish enough to be wise.

LAZHWAR'S LOST LABOATORY

This hideout shows a darker side to the forsaken masters. After searching for years Zana finally found the lost laboratory of the Archbishop Lazhwar. This was the place where he created the very first map device which would later inspire Malachai's Eternal Laboratory.

Consumed by greed Elrion, Haku, Catarina and Zana took over the ruins and brought in slaves to harvest the worlds created by Lazhwar before he was burned at the stake.

Connecting the original map device to a train track they are now able to empty the hidden worlds and hoard amazing amounts of wealth.

I came up with the concept for the hideout because I bought the "Steampowered portal" MTX and wanted to make use of it in a hideout. Unfortunatly there isn't too many mechanical decorations so I originally wanted to make it in Elrions hideout since it is smaller, but the lighting effect from "cauldron" bugs a lot in that hideout so I swapped to Zana and had to make it bigger. That's when I thought of the loottrain and I build like crazy from there.

The hideout is build around using a 50% zoom level to see the details and better seperate the many coloured lights.

I hope you enjoy :)

Lazhwwar worked for years perfecting his map device. Lacking his genious the masters now use the souls of their slaves to power it:

An abandoned watchtower, burned to the ground when the inquisition caught Lazhwar. Leo stands guard over it as every night haunted cries from the top of the tower scares the slaves:

Even slaves need to relax, making the best of a bad situation they build this cozy little village:

Consumed by greed the masters build a traintrack and forced their slaves to push around whole carts of loot. Zana keeps a close watch to make sure nothing is stolen. The north wall I call the Grinding Gears Wall:

Everything is powered by this machine, if you thought the rapture device was powerful you are in for a surprise:

A strange device of Vaal origin flanks the stairs to the lower levels:

Elrion might not crave gold, but when it comes to knowledge noone is greedier then him. Every book is gathered by slaves and it is never enough:

Whenever a slave dies from the brutal work they are taken to Catarina. Here she works on new ways to enhance the map devices power:

Haku stares into the fire, what he sees noone knows. He uses the ores and gems found in the maps to forge weapons of terrible power:

A strange smell and horrible noises emanates from the sewer entrance. Even though the gate is securely locked the masters make sure to throw a slave or two a week down there to placate whatever dwells inside:

I made the mistake of inviting Chris by my hideout and now he wont leave!

Greengroove standard hideout - The calm island

The intended design for this hideout is a suiting calm environment. It features large open spaces and it looks quite ordinary but it has plenty of small details if you really look for them.

Tora's Nightmare
Warbands League

Background Story
Lost, deep within the dark forest, lives Tora, a poor tormented soul. Born a hunter, she spent her life inside the forest, using her bow and knife to get what was needed. Life was simple, until she came, a evil spirit, she was the one to corrupt the woods. All that was living, ran away, and what stayed behind, no longer lives. Catarina made a deal with Tora, she would spare her and her brother, but in exchange, Tora would find more souls for her, she would make sure nothing would come out alive from the forest.

Tora was a good person, a good person lost within a twisted game, she simply couldn’t kill innocent people, every arrow that she put through a beating heart, took a part of her with it. Catarina made Tora build a prison, a place where she could keep what was left of those who met her face to face, and a last home for those still to know her true form.

Allied with Zana, a sinister inventor with wicked ideas, Catarina planned on rulling wraeclast. The portal machine would take her from east to west in a heart beat, the same time it took Catarina to murder another innocent soul.

Name: Found temple, lost exiles
Theme: The good, the bad, and the ugly of exploring a new place!
Standard league
Sorry for the image sizes folks tried to make them as small as I could!

The entrance is wreathed in ancient arches, yet tempts one to explore what lies beyond...

Ahhh Vorici's basecamp! This is an exile who knows how to travel. He quickly began to use the river as a cooling system for his more extravagant inventions, all the while trying to learn what this place really was.

Here is the temple teased in the first image, with Tora -the original discoverer- watching over it. But what's that in the corner?

A sacrificial shrine? Re-ignited by the new owners, or an ever burning monument to thamautergy?

Know for something a little cleaner, a little less.... sticky. *shudder* A broken monument to a time long gone.

We've seen the good and the ugly of exploration, what about the bad? Well Elreon has a little somethin' somethin' to share....

Oh no! Elreon's ship seem to have been wrecked! Its slowly seems to be sinking into the mud of Wraeclast, like so many other things in this god-forsaken land....

The Obsidian Fortress
Warbands
Theme: Wealthy fortress atop the industrial mines and simple mining village (3 in 1!)

The fortress sits atop the Infernal Mines, home to the most resiliant stone building materials in Wraeclast. From trading these exquisite materials, the overseer of the burning mountain have amassed wealth displayed by the fortress' eloquent yet humble designs and structures. Below the fortress lies the City of Miners and of course the mouth of the Infernal Mines...

Next to the waypoint, the fortress harnesses geothermal power spewing from the Infernal Mines below, above, Leo guards the equipment inventories of the fortress including the crafting benches.
Spoiler

Here we can get a clearer view of Leo, as well as the shrine to the left (blessing font). The Overseer is not big on religion, hence the solitary shrine. Now, I wonder where that staircase leads to...
Spoiler

Atop the stairs lie the brain or control center of the fortress where the Overseer consults his council of Masters, discussing matters that will come to influence every exile in Wraeclast like map drops, and of course managing the mining business. To the side, the map device is geothermally powered on the right, and stashes of the finest weapons and armour in Wraeclast to the left.
Spoiler

Now back to the waypoint. Next to it over a number of large rocks are the descent of stairs that will mark the exit of the fortress and down into town and the mining zone.
Spoiler

Here the ascent to the fortess, the path to town and the Infernal Mines converge.
Spoiler

At the mouth of the beast, this is where the Obsidian Fortress' famed stone slabs are produced. With the stones, highly praised volcanic jewels are also found deep within the mines. The mine carts carry exiled workers and supplies in while shipping stone slabs and jewels out that are unloaded by the crane. All exiled miners are issued a large number of ruby flasks to be able to work under the intense heat of the mines.
Spoiler

The mining town houses the miners and their families as well as fishermen and other laborers. The effigy in the center of town burns from a volcanic well under it (it also houses the headstones).
