Say thank you after a trade.

I always frame it as a query not only expressing interest but also making sure it's still possible. Not in these exact words, but some variation thereof: 'Hi, I see you have X listed for sale at Y price. Is that offer still good and is now a good time? :)'

This acknowledges that sometimes poe.trade doesn't update and that sometimes people list things incorrectly by mistake. It also gives the person a chance to say 'no sorry I'm busy' without seeming rude.

And a smile never costs anything.

If they're prompt and polite/friendly I overpay.

I like that. Think I'm going to start using it. Direct, yet simple and to the point.
I agree. I've traded with a few "famous" streamers, and its surprising how seldom they say thank you. Maybe they are saying it aloud in their stream...idk, I don't watch any. Just say it in game is all I'd suggest.

I didn't thank a guy once yesterday and it's been eating at me ever since.

Sorry unnamed person who sold me that great jewel... I regaled it and it hit the stat I wanted too!!
Every Saturday = National Booze n Poe Day
If you heckle me down in price, make me come to your hideout, then pay me in gum, you don't get a "ty".
Man, the manners! That's just plain crap.

I think I've sold about two items ever and those were perfectly pleasant. Bought many and have always been cordial even if we didn't complete a deal. Have had several continuing conversations with people about their build or hideouts after buying stuff and I'm not even really a very friendly guy!
In this sick ass gaming world, I'm not surprised of the lack of "thank you's".

We're talking a fragment of a second here, think of all the XP loss. Could be doing 80 maps.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
I always say thanks when buying stuff. When selling stuff I sometimes do sometimes don't.
We fight to delay the end because it's the means that matter.
If you're expecting a thank you from every person that comes to your "shop" maybe you shouldn't be selling stuff. That's like a cashier at a store expecting a ty from every patron, it's just not gonna happen. Some people could be having a bad day and just need to get something, and would rather not chit-chat. Or are too busy chatting with friends/guildies or spouse/kids, I know this happened to me a few times. You got the currency you were asking for...and you need more? Lower your expectations of people a bit and you won't get disappointed.

Spoiler
I always say thanks fwiw. :)

As much as I agree that is is something people should do , I also don't get angry when they don't

because i know the whispering system sometimes fails and registers peeps you just talked to as offline

Happens to me every time. I say thanks, then later realize it said that person isn't logged on. Seems like whispering works to any character name unless you are in their hideout. Then it has to be to the one they are currently on.

I don't trade much but yes I always say thanks, and so far everyone I've traded with has been nice :D
