+1 level to gem is useless?

i think "+1 level to gem" option is useless.
and i feel angry when my rare or unique has this option instead of other option.

+1 is more impactful for spells and stuff like poison arrow/viper strike that deal damage over time. At least the items vendor for an alch shard.
+1 to gems is absolutely worthless if you're using something like cleave or leap slam - those skills don't get much from level ups

The mod is extremely powerful with certain support gems and spells, it's very good. But if you're a weapon-based character, it's really only good for very niche skills (like viper strike). It is very good with auras though, so even if you're using a weapon, just use auras in those slots.

For instance, I got this staff yesterday



I was thinking of 6Ling it, but maybe not. If I were to, let's say, I could do

LS + Lightning pen + added lightning damage + weapon elemental damage + more melee damage + faster attacks

Note how 3 of those gems would go +2 in level, which can be very significant (in added lightning's case, anyway).

Can this added level for gems go past max level, ie. 20?

Gem can be easily gotten to lvl15 or 16 within reasonable timeframe. Hell, I have most of my primary attack skill and support gems half-way through 18, therefore, +gem will soon be useless for me if it does not go beyond max level.

Yep, that was added at the start of the open beta. :)

well show me the difference or example how powerful it is. it is just +1 level. maybe it will cost more mana. very bad. i think it should increase quality than level.
+Quality for some spells does next to nothing. It shouldn't effect quality.

I don't think any of the wikis have 20+ data for us to look at, but there is a substantial jump in dps on Viper Strike from level 6 to 7, fireball is also one skill... or raise zombie. You get MUCH stronger zombies with +1 or +2 to it.

Ever seen Ethereal Knives, Poison Arrow, Viper Strike, Bear Trap or Elemental Hit? These gems all have utterly insane gem level scaling.
