How much should I spend to start playing?

I would agree the others that be most practical use of points are stash tabs. I have been playing the game since shortly after it was released and for most of that time my only investment was for 2 normal stash tab bundles. I recently purchased an awakening supporter pack as a show of support for GGG. You asked about normal vs. premium tabs, and I think you will be fine with normal to start out. I used 16 tabs for a long time and normal tabs were fine. I used my points from the supporter pack to add more tabs and I also converted all of them to premium. I am up to 34 tabs now and really like having the premium tabs. The premium tabs really make management easier as you start to get more tabs. Glad you are enjoying the game!!

One further thing I'll recommend is grabbing the Axiom Supporter pack rather than just a bunch of extra points. It's the one truly awesome looking pack from this bunch and the rest, at least in my opinion, don't add anything significant of value. Better to stop at Axiom and wait for the next batch of packs unless you really feel you need more points.

GGG will allow you to merge point pack purchases towards Supporter Packs, I believe, but there are conditions and cutoff dates to determine which purchases for which batch of packs.

I lost my job a couple of months or so I can't spend what money i have left in my bank willy-nilly. I'd have spent around 20$ or so had i not lost a job. Then again had I didn't have a job I wouldn't be able to play PoE at all in the first place.

Well even with a job you would have no time to play? I have a two hour commute each way and a three year old child at home. Still find time to play an hour during the week, more at weekends. Otherwise it would be work and no play..

You don't really need to spend anything to start playing, but as you find good gear you will probably want to buy stash tabs as everyone recommends. The other stuff in the shop are just to make you look better.

If you find yourself hooked on it, you know its time to be a supporter and buy or upgrade to a pack.

I bought a stash tab bundle. So now I have plenty of room...for now.

And I bought two ember mystery boxes!

Okay, so I got a pet! Fireflies! Too cool. I have to have at least one pet to start and the mystery box gave me a pet I like!

And the second box!

INFERNAL SKULL EFFECT! Worth double what I paid. AND I LOVE IT!!!

I can't wait for the month to end. I will probably upgrade to Axiom and buy some more cool stuff. And then I will start buying points on a monthly basis.

THIS GAME WILL BE MY NEW OBSESSION.

Diablo 3 can kiss my behind!

That's great to hear! I spend my points on a premium tab bundle, and upgraded the rest of the tabs to premium. I also just started, a little over a week ago.

The mystery boxes are really intriguing but I am not sure if I should spend more money at this stage. Even though that is tempting!! Give me a message when you upgrade your pack, I will likely cave in and do the same, hehehehe. The highgate pack is tempting me too, I should turn off my pc now! Heeee!
