OVERTUNED Abyssal Tempest+artic breath= 1shot 4.6k hp -30chaos
"I dont disagree with you. Im just saying that if I saw this kind of tempest with anything less than like 55% chaos res, I would haul ass ASAP |

" ^Exactly this <.o GTFO would be my first course of action. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" You sometimes don't see a tempest swirl until you see mobs and then it's too late. See our 7k hp player who got instagibbed by spark mages. |

"is a tempest announced beforehand like map mods ? sorry I dont play the new leagues this time around so I don't know much. I agree that in general such tempest is way overtuned if it cannot be avoided by someone with crap chaos res |

"well, thats a lot of deeps against hardcore player toons, not the mobs. mobs still have some chaos res or zero chaos res. lets put it this way, the difference between mob cold res and chaos res is very little (like maybe 10-30 res). the difference in a players res, like we've seen is huge (105 res) so thats a ' makes a player bend over' tempest, most builds dont benefit a ton from that tempest besides lack of reflect. plus they lose elemental penetration. |

" It says the name but you don't know what it does until you see it or step on a tempest. Only way to not die is to get lucky like i did by testing the tempest with a small white mob pack or having prior knowledge. 60+ chaos resist is extremely rare on characters as really 20 to 30 is more than enough for chaos dmg bosses and mobs. This tempest just throws all the rules out the window. |

Well GGG sort of missed the boat already on making chaos damage/resistance something truly unique.
It's just another resistance now, sadly. This tempest would have worked in the old system where you could not get any chaos resistance apart from CI. Adjusting it's value's would be a wise decision imo. Though arguably, player knowledge comes into play as-well? If you have seen it once you know how it looks right, or is that not how it works? Are there multiple purple tempest's for example? Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" It randomly spawns throughout the map so as soon as I see purple I literally log out. Imagine if you're chain face rolling 68 maps then suddenly as you're fighting fireball skeleton mages suddenly abyssal tempest spawns on them. You're 100% dead |

It's not 100% though, i imagine some people prepare themselves for this encounter with gear and a chaos flask on demand.
Also your implying that there is only one purple tempest and that it keeps you on your toe's while playing, which seems to be the intent of the tempest league. So it is in fact avoidable if you 1) have encountered it previously 2) pay attention to your surroundings I understand the frustration though, the game never demanded high focus on chaos resistances up until now and for some very particular fights. Though given what you just said, i don't see GGG changing it. Peace, -Boem- edit : if i had a personal stake in this , i wouldn't vote to remove it, but reduce it's value to 50% conversion. That way "some effort" on chaos resistances will already yield a far better result. (like +20/+30%) It would also make the first encounter more bearable, assuming it spawns in normal and cruel as-well? This is important because the player needs to be educated on what a tempest actually does before he can form counter strategy's. And nobody likes losing a high end character to "learn" this lesson. " It doesn't show up to merciless. Also the tempest is clearly imbalanced unless you have premier level gear that doesn't show up until maps. Chaos dmg values are balanced around the rarity of chaos gear which is why big chaos dmg doesn't show up until late maps. And the tempest could spawn off screen and ranged mobs could instantly kill you. Not just that late game physical dmg is multiplied greatly as it just hard counters armor. It's ridiculous and honestly the tempest shouldn't exist. Last edited by allbusiness#6050 on Jul 19, 2015, 12:01:20 AM
