Low fps or fps drops.

Tried to make a videoguide for my buildguide for atziri, but those framedrops into single digits make it impossible to do a videoguide.

Cyclone MARA Beginners and Advanced Guide.
i have same problem, please ggg do somethink with this i wanna play this game !!!

FX 6300 six- core 3,8ghz
8gb ram 2133mhz
radeon r9 290 windforce oc 4gb
Would love some official reply on the progress of this, but not holding my breath. Ground effects have been killing FPS in PoE since closed beta and it's still not fixed. Making matters worse you have no choice but to alch maps to get anywhere past 73s now, and the odds of getting zero ground effects is, well ...

PLEASE - just let me turn off the effects of desecrated ground, burning ground, chilled ground - I don't care if I have to run around in them blindly. They do more damage to my GPU than to my character anyways.
Had some problem with lags, fps drop, spikes, etc.
After few days of research, get a well-to-me configuration, thats make me feel better about play. Truly i thought to take a break till new patch comes out.

my spec: win7pro64bit, no antivirus, i3-4610, gtx 960 (drivers 355.60 without any installed 3d support), 16gb ram,samsung ssd 850 pro, dell u2412m.

The main idea is to lock framerate at monitors refreshrate and turn ingame vsync on, go fullscreen with original monitor resolution, but on others low settings, in couse on peeks of load it can prevent fps drop(not well tested). Game has nosound option (-ns to the link). Nvidia settings for poe is default, global setting are to prefer best performance and turn off any powersaving options. No vsync by nvidia, no triple buffering.

At single player i have stable 59-60fps without spikes at all. Full party on ledge with big count of mobs causes drop to 25-30 fps.

Used msiafterburner 4.1.1 with RTSS 6.3.0. to lock framerate. I used 59 framerate limit cause that's my monitor refresh rate.

You can customize and experiment with it. Maybe it can be better.

Write here, how it helps or not.

p.s. Ingame setting networking to predictive realy helps a lot. Plus you may clean ShaderCache folder in poe installed folder (c:\POE\ShaderCache) and minimap in user settings (c:\Users\user\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile\Minimap). These options already mentioned on forum.

Happening to me too, even with everything turned on low. I'm on a I5-2400 OC @ 3.6 and a GTX 960 FTW 4GB. Pretty sure I should be playing this game smoothly. GTA 5 everyting on ultra pretty much and I get 60+ fps.
Hi!

For people with Intel CPUs (with hyper threading) and Geforce grafic cards, I got a huge performance boost by these steps would love to see someone else try it out.

I recommend that if you try my changes you have some knowledge about computers, however I did everything with just the help of google.
Sorry if it's hard to read, english isn't my first language.

I do not have a perfect, stable FPS with this but at least the game feels very smooth.
All steps should be safe but I will take no responsibility for any problems caused by this.

I have had a lot of problems with PoE for a long time, stopped playing last year because it was impossible to play multiplayer games with a lot of effects, came back for 2.0 to try if things had changed, it hasn't.

And it's not just FPS drops, it freezes for 0,5s or less.
For example opening a strongbox, crits in large packs of mobs, desecreated ground etc. makes the game unplayable especially in multiplayer games.

I did test a lot of things last year but could not find a soloution, this time I did find something that helped my performance a lot and actually removing the freezes making the game playable in multiplayer.

My system is:
i7 3770K
16GB ram (if you only have 8GB ignore the ram disk step but feel free to try the other stuff)
GTX 680 OC
Intel SSD 240GB (will use ram disk anyway lol)
Asus 144HZ monitor
Win 10 (had spikes, freezes, drops with both win7 and win10)
PoE installed on steam

-------

What I did now after trying the game in 2.0 was:

I learned(knew) that PoE isn't made for multi core CPUs and I my case CPUs with hyper threading that makes 4 logical cores as well as having 4 physical cores.

1. In BIOS I enabled XMP using this article:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7364/memory-scaling-on-haswell/2
what it does is setting different memory profiles for your ram but in my case with my specific processor and motherboard it also does a CPU overclock. If you don't have XMP or don't feel comfortable changing it, ignore this step.

2. Disabled hyper threading in BIOS(this is the important one) using this article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422874,00.asp (there's two pages)
what it does is that it makes so the CPU only uses your 4 physical cores and doesn't create 4 logical cores anymore.

3. Change the power option in windows to high performance (control panel>power options).

4. Fresh installation of PoE, I did it through steam.

5. Download Nvidia inspector
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvidia-inspector-download.html
Find the Path of Exile profile and reset it to Nvidio defaults, my settings looks like this:
http://imgur.com/bEMaUh7

6. Before running the game I put Path of exile on a ram disk, my main PoE directory in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile is almost 7GB so you will need to have at least 16GB ram for this, I used this guide made by a PoE player: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/2mdj9s/psa_how_to_play_poe_using_a_ram_disk_the_smart/
When it's time to format the ram disk I used NTFS and 32kb.

I also linked my directory in C:\Users\user\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile don't know if this will improve anything but better safe than sorry, you will have to create another directory on your ram disk and put this folder in there since there can't be two Path of Exile directories on the ram drive, if you do this make sure to link it correctly (for me it's: mklink /j "C:\Users\user\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile" "G:\my games\Path of Exile".

7. Make sure windows is set to your monitors refresh rate (.inf file for your monitor and OS if you have it):
http://www.microcenter.com/tech_center/article/2119/how_to_change_screen_refresh_rate_in_windows_7-vista-xp

8. Adding the --nosound startup option in steam, right click path of exile in steam>set launch options> add the line -ns

I do this because I want to remove the possibility of sound having any impact on the performance, and for me it actually does :(. I want to play with sound but not at the cost of having huge FPS problems.

(I would love for anyone to explain what "--software audio" does exactly, I have a ASUS xonar sound card with my onboard disabled in BIOS)

9. Start the game, I always right click the .exe file on the ram disk and select run as admin (better safe than sorry).
Make sure you're using predictive mode, choose the correct server.

In Game options (try these settings first, feel free to test higher settings after testing it out for a while):

- Fullscreen
- Your native resolution, for me it's 1920x1080
- Make sure V sync is turned on (my FPS without it in a fresh EU town is 333-500)
- Shadows Off
- AA quality Off
- Texture Quality medium
- Trilinear filtering
- PP Off
- SS Off

Time to try these changes out! I do not have a perfect stable 144 FPS with this but at least the game feels very smooth.

Since I did turn XMP on and it does overclock my CPU (also tried a small OC on my GPU in Nvidia inspector) I did monitor my temperatures to be sure I didn't have any heat problems, I would recommend you do the same even if you haven't overclocked anything, maybe your problem is just heat releated.

I use the program HWiNFO64 (click on sensors and you can see temps for everything)
http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

Hopefully you will get the same boost in performance as me, if you do please report in this thread!
And in https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1398989

Good luck!

Same problem here, game is kind of unplayable since 2.0. I never had any issues before, but since the patch fps randomly drops down to zero from time to time and the game completely freezes for like 0,5-1 second. I tried all the solutions i could find around here, reddit etc., nothing helped. Today´s patch did nothing aswell. Kind of sad, because i like the game.
Same as with everyone else, game ran like butter pre-update but has been totally unplayable since 2.1

Core i5-3570, GTX660ti, 16gb RAM, poe installed on ssd

IGN books
Started having lots of issues today, fps dropped drastically. For some reason from good 60 fps I saw the drop to sub 20 in maps, even in town it sucks and varies between 30-50. First I thought its perhaps driver issue so I removed old driver dled newest one, didnt help. Tweaked some settings including setting details to 5 in config file, no effect on fps at all. I completely removed whole game and redownloaded it. It worked for a while, till I closed the game and fired it up again. Exactly same issue. I know my laptop isn't that strong (i7-3630QM@ 2.4GHz, 16GB RAM, SSD, Nvidia 650M) but it was handling PoE perfectly fine in 1920x1080. No idea why such huge performance drop.
I am truly Mad.
I AM MAD
ZAP!ZAP!ZAP! ME SOOO WIZZARD!
2.0 made it bad.
