CWDT + Phase Run = The Next Best Thing? and more

Hi all,


I have just been testing out a few gem setups and have found that Cast When Damage Taken and Phase Run go hand-in-hand and act as a worthy replacement to the classic Cast When Damage Taken setup.

This is mainly because of you not being hit by monsters as much as much as you normally would be (80% reduced visibility to enemies). You can fast travel through mobs in-case you were getting hammered. Another reason to use it would be for the small melee bonus it provides (once you come out of Phase Run), plus Phase Run recasts every time for when you take X amounts of damage, depending on your Cast When Damage Taken's gem level.

Setups such as Cast When Damage Taken + Phase Run + Increased Duration might prove to be useful. Adding Blood Rage will also extend the duration of Phase Run, due to it consuming frenzy charges.

thx for the tip. gonna try it. if only phase run would be available for templars.
this combination does not work for me. phase run never activates. it doesnt work with any of the auto cast gems
I thought that I wouldn't be the only one to figure this out.
As melee this is absolutely boss, since basically every melee setup is using frenzy at least sometimes (or hypothermia/ice bite on ice crash), then you always get the boosted duration even if you don't need it. It's a free quartz flask when you need to GTFO or a damage boost when you don't.

Check the level of you Cast When Damage Taken and the level of Phase Run, as CWDT has to be a higher level then Phase Run in order for it to work. I personally suggest keeping both gems at level 1 so then they will have a higher chance to cast. Support gems like Increased Duration are not affected by the level limit.


For the rest, I am glad to see that people are testing this out, with some finding it useful. I felt that this combo would be great for those who weren't stun immune since you won't be getting hit (most of the time) whilst in this form and being stun locked by a group of monsters.

Even if it works you know what GGG is going to do next.
It Works with CWDT however you're constantly using skills so it goes almost immediately into Damage Buff mode, if you don't have frenzy charges you won't even notice the spike unless you're hovering over your damage tooltip.

Now CWDT and Tempest Sheild on the other hand :) working just fine. +3% block chance while in combat? Yes Please.

Yeah, the duration is the only problem. I tried Tempest Shield that way and it seemed good but I prefer to self cast it.

My Setup for Self cast:

Tempest Shield + Increased Duration + Life Leech/Culling Strike + Added Lightning Damage

I get decent leech (since Vaal Pact is now kinda *$%£!% Up) and I get 21 seconds of duration that recasts on block. I noticed that Life Gain on Hit does not work anymore and that the Block Chance Reduction gem might be used as an alternative.

Since I am a Mjolner based character using a lightning variant Doryani belt. I also have a few combos that I`ve found for Golems as well if anyone is interested.

LGoH has always been restricted to Attacks only.
