You tend to miss the whole point of posting here , someone needs to go back to school and learn to read the topic perhaps ?

Watch and observe, then maybe you shall learn from the old Crackmonster.

Every big patch its a solid portion of cries before, most of the cries come from people whos builds are affected and the like. I might just do the damn same, it's only human.

It's been established a long time ago that ggg follow their own path, so if you aren't satisfied with what they have provided then you won't be by what they will, but if you like the game as is, then you will most likely be happy. Most of us had a rage period where we had to surrender our fantasies for the game and accept ggg does it their way, and we stayed.

There will also be some good crywaves afterwards, and some ggg adjustments, but on the whole, were looking at new times, a solid step up in quality, but essentially the same game.

It is mindblowing how a person can totally miss the point by such a long shot lol .

grepman, do not forget Laz's important caveat revarding "respecs." His article is written mostly from the perspective of "final" builds which have their skills set in stone.

Fortify can be "respec'd" fairly easily, all you need is more defense elsewhere and to replace the support with something else.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but can't you use Fortify with a 4L such as Leap Slam?

There is no point in time where you will want to respec out of fortify, because the game itself offers no limits to top end damage.

there are theoretical estimates of top-end damage, but then come in the map modifiers which do quite wonky stuff with those top-end numbers, throw in some rare combo's etc, you get my point.

At the end of the day it only takes one single hit to insta kill you given the stars align properly.

With that in mind, people build to counter this singular instance of deadly damage and all other damage becomes irrelevant in comparison.

There is no way to improve your defenses in such a way that it reflects 25% reduced damage from all on hit effects.(with "rampart" you still attain the old 25%)

your correct on the leap slam suggestion though, but again this doesn't dispute the fact it is mandatory, in fact in enforces that statement. Since your response is "get it anyway, just put it on something else to proq it".

Suddenly casters are gonna wander into melee and start weaving this for protection? I don't quite picture it, maybe some battlemage build. How long does it last, maybe 4 seconds?

The thing is also, ggg have been looking to give melee a survival boost, one that wasn't really useful in builds that were not already in melee. Why not give them a melee gem to help with their survival?

And how else would you give melee something that only applied fully to them?

Fortify needed to be added to melee base skills as a buff.

1) it drops the mandatory gem slot
2) it's automatically restricted to melee only
3) the physical% damage which now only benefits physical builds, while the gem is also mandatory for elemental melee builds is no longer an issue
4) a lot easier to balance if it's fully restricted to the "melee attack" skill gems.

They could even ad a duration modifier on it depending on the skill,

- heavy strike = 6 seconds fortify buff for example
- ground slam = 2 seconds

So a melee close up skill would be a lot safer to add the buff and would get great results from "increased duration" nodes and support gems. While a semi ranged melee skill would not etc.

Only ones that will look stupid is cry ppl complaining now and 2 weeks after patch game is beat and Atziri down by many men with and without fortify.
Git R Dun!
something i just noticed reading this, ggg has said they balance some parts of the game according to the top 1% of players, but the top 1% of players make their builds around the 1% chance to occur spike damage.

that looks like a feedback loop to me.

ggg balances around the best, the best balance around the worst possible situation, leading ggg to re-buff the worst possible situation, and in the mean-time everyone else gets a nice sledgehammer sandwich.
