spell echo + spectres interaction

The thing is about minions is that the expected use of them is to spec into minion nodes to make them worthwhile at all. Wasting all those points to get them stronger may be enough to make self casting at the same time weak enough the spell echo on minions can be justified I think. I don't know enough of the numbers to say for sure.

On the totem side, there used to be and I think still are plenty of totem/self-cast combos out there that could make spell echo be a must have in every totem.
