Idea for PoE2 Passive Tree
I'd hope to see a completely new IP, ideally futuristic, for use in a PoE2 or at least a spiritual sequal. A nice Diabloesque take on some mixture of Mass Effect and Star Wars: Old Republic. A clean, sleek hexagonal would fit aesthetically with that.
I think the passive "nest" we have now is fine and easy to understand though a challenge to learn. If you were going to change things up to help make it seem less daunting, show it off in pieces, into hubs, these sorts of "snowflakes" to give you an idea of shape, but with directions that are clearly understood. Each class would have their spokes towards a direction thematic to the class and reaching major nodes would open up new snowflakes starting at their center just like your initial class. Fill a line, choose one or more end nodes, and they open up new hubs thematic to that choice. Take an evasion/life node at the end of a string of dexterity friendly nodes, and it opens a hub that furthers such a direction, offering protective aspects and offering secondary directions like auras and other "side" stats that branch from specifically physical, ranged, melee, or spell damage, or from armor, evasion, es, or life. I'm not sure what could be done from a fourth stat, however, that cannot already be achieved, though it would certainly need to be magically based given we already have two "physical" stats. It would open up for new elements perhaps as Wisdom and more clericy stuff as you put it could befit light and dark damage and represent "neutral" magic as well (thematically physical/kinetic type spells). This could split magic damage into Elemental and Divine. Also, you're looking at four more classes to create an appropriate state of two-stat hybrids. The purist, then WIS/INT, STR, and DEX. We'd have ten considering other purists and hybrids. And that wouldn't include if they tried to then make three stat and a scion-like all stat work... |
