Computer randomly shuts down while playing PoE

Hi everybody,
doing a quick search through the Forum I've seen this is an issue quite some players are facing. Some people have solved it turning off the music, some others disabling the HD AUDIO in the settings of their graphic card. Some others by updating the drivers.
One thing most of these players have in common is Windows 7.

Now, I'm facing the same issue that - as mentioned by others - is occuring only while playing PoE and never happened before, nor happens with other games. I tried all the 'tricks' mentioned before and none of above appears to work: the game randomly shuts down my laptop after either 5 minutes or 40.

I play PoE on a Laptop, and like other people have noticed before, the shut down is not related to overheating at all.

I really do love this game but I'm getting unable to play it and most important I'm starting to be afraid for the other data on my HDD not to mention the possible damage to the main power part of my machine.

Is there any setting that can be tweaked or something to avoid this from happening?

Thanks for any valid response.

Cheers.

I don't know if it matters but most of the shut downs I've experienced occoured while playing The Imperial Gardens or The Ebony Barracks.
When you say "shut down" you mean that the laptop itself turns off?

Because PoE (or software in general) cannot really cause hardware to shut down like that. It's usually a hardware problem that the software triggers through excessive heat or power consumption.
I sort of have the same problem. Only worse. My pc didn't restart correctly so I couldn't try anything to fix it. Could be what Drakier said

I've been having the same problem with PoE. I set HWINFO to monitor voltages and temps at 250ms intervals and log the information. When I checked that log after a reboot, all temps and voltages were perfectly normal. Yes, I'm sure. The crash also leaves no dump logs. Event viewer shows nothing. This means it's definitely some type of power issue. Oh, also I'm running everything at stock settings, no OC'ing, just for the record.

I have hundreds of games on my Steam account, and I can play any of them without issues. Games I've tried: Dishonored, Borderlands 2, Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite, Rift, Planetside 2, Everquest 2, the list goes on... Not a single game that I've tried has reproduced the crashing. No other non-gaming PC activity causes the reboots. The computer can stay running for 24/7 days on end without a reboot of any kind, but when I load up PoE, that's all she wrote.

So in summary, my situation: Path of Exile is the only game that causes my computer to reboot, and it happens anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours after loading up the game (EDIT: just something else to add here - it isn't related to any particularly activity in the game, as in, it can happen if I'm sitting by myself in my hideout looking through my stash using very little graphical power, or doing a map with a whole mess of mobs and spells on the screen). The reboot is for certain not caused by overheating or voltage irregularities.

I'm noticing quite a few of these types of posts on these forums (PoE causing reboots). Some have been verified to be overheating, which makes sense of course. But some can't be easily explained, like mine. I have three other computers all with completely different hardware that do not have this issue. So, I've gone ahead and ordered a replacement PSU and it will be here by mid next week. I will report back on here and let everyone know if changing the PSU helped or not. It's entirely possible that the PSU isn't exactly faulty, but that PoE doesn't play nice with a specific piece of hardware or certain combinations of specific hardware. It's just very hard for me to say with any certainty that a power supply is faulty when there is so much evidence to the contrary. But we'll see when I get the new one in. Hopefully it will be that simple.

My hardware, for what it's worth:

i7-4790k (not OC'd)
Asus Z97-A motherboard
16GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
EVGA GTX 970
Corsair HX850 psu

I'm going to keep my eye on this post. Hoping that it will give a solution to my issue
i am having this problem too... the game give a black screen, u an can still hear sound for awhile then closed down.

you cannot do anything during this closure except to hold the power button until the pc completely shut down.

i tested playing other games too, like tera online, marvel heroes 2015, diablo 3, and others. Only poe caused such critical problems...

Update to my previous post:

Just received and installed my replacement PSU. Going to play for a while and see what happens. Will update this post either as soon as it crashes again (let's hope that doesn't happen) or I play for a significant length of time without crashing.

Something to note though I doubt it matters: Corsair no longer makes the HX850, so my unit was replaced with an HX850i. Just throwing that out there to keep track of all the variables.

Edit: So far so good. About 4'ish hours of play time without any resets. If it doesn't happen for the entire day tomorrow, I think it'll be fairly safe to call changing out the PSU a victory (because it happened very often previously). Will update again later.

Update 5/29: Seems pretty safe at this point to call replacing the PSU a victory. I'm still perplexed at how no other game that I could find in my steam library (games that technically speaking draw far more power and use much more of the GPU than PoE does - I'm talking about games like Metro Last Light or The Witcher 2 on MAXIMUM settings, and not only that, but MMO's with hundreds of people all performing abilities in range of me, whereas PoE is me alone and entirely instanced from other players).

So, to anyone out there having similar issues, may want to start with the PSU if you're sure that overheating isn't your problem. I'd be curious to hear from a GGG developer, their thoughts on how, from a technical standpoint, PoE could be the only game causing the issue I was having. I mean the problem appears solved, so that's great, but just from a curiosity standpoint I'd like to understand more about the problem I was having.
