Combat Feels Slow and Clunky!!!
I would like to start of by saying this game is really an amazing accomplishment for such a small company. I have immense respect for GGG showing the big guys how it's done!
Now to the main topic!(Melee Characters)! I like the gem system reminiscent of FF7 materia and the sphere grid system of FFX. The lighting and the darkness brings back old memories. I really enjoy that part of the game! But,I'm having a really hard time getting into it. My problem has to do with combat. It feels slow and clunky compared to other arpgs. I shouldn't be complaining because the game is free so i feel bad even posting this:( But I always play melee soldier classes and like smashing things in quick succession. When i swing my weapon, I feel like I stop and wait 2 seconds before i swing again! It really is annoying!I read the forums saying casters have a better time because their actions are more smoother than melee.I wont play a caster tho i hate them:) Everything about this game is 10/10 except the most important at least for me and its the combat. P.S Before people say to get more attack speed. I have seen youtube videos and read the forums on how attack speed really doesn't improve melee gameplay. I also got to play my friends higher level marauder because i told him higher attack speed should fix the issue and he said it really didn't. I felt he was right:( Last edited by PwnerWrath#1622 on Feb 10, 2013, 3:01:35 PM

" Don't believe everything you hear/read. Try it for yourself, you'll find/see/experience a huge improvement. Good luck :) |

Get attack speed brah! Jokes aside, you can achieve really high attack speed, building properly, speccing properly and itemizing properly+gems. You'll have a hard time moving away from death tho:)

" LoL,pretty much what i gathered from your post is if i go all attack speed i will be dying a lot,But, if i go more defensive I will be slow as snail:P I just want a smoother transition from skills chains.I feel a sort of lag or interruption between them. I don't know maybe its just me:( |

" Thats a design choice. Skills don't end in the middle of the swing in PoE. Your character has to regain balance and so a delay appears between one attack and the next move you can make. I actually like it that way. But thats all up to personal opinion. |

" You might be right about the design choice. I think that is what ultimately hold me back from really enjoying this game.Everything else is so good tho :( |

I was like you...if I'm honest, the combat when i first started playing was horrible. Slow, no impact, no brutality. For all it's flaws, D3 had fun combat (excluding inferno ofc). I enjoyed smashing zombies to pieces in that. POE felt rather weak in comparison. A shame then because everything else was so wonderful! Anyway, I'm still playing, I just don't notice it as much now. I really wish they'd do something about it though. I bet the combat puts a lot of people off at the beginning. It is so damn stale.

What level are you? At the beginning levels on memes it felt slow, clicking everything or holding the mouse button on an enemy. But by level 36 or so I was spamming skills and running/charging around like madman so ranged mobs didnt get a chance to run or pwn me. If it feels slow, definitely invest in the charge gem (or leap?). It makes melee a lot better. Always charging around and spamming skills

" Currently level 15, I might just need to keep going and hope to see more fluid combat.Don't want to get my hopes up because i got to play my friends lv 60 marauder a while back. |

Melee is getting huge improvements soon. At the moment they lack skills and don't do too well.
It might change the clunky combat in endgame... at the start melee is still pretty painful. |
