linux nvidia

Hi,
I installed poe in gnu/linux ubuntu 15.04 64bit (gnome) with playonlinux(wine). I used the following tutorial which helped me a lot. http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Path_of_Exile_on_Wine So far it runs very well. There is one thing i can't manage, the game detects a nvidia gtx 400 graphic-card but i have a nvidia geforce gtx 970m card. How can i force the game to run with the correct adapter. Only changing the adapter_name in the game.config did not work. thx io |

Are you using the nvidia proprietary drivers package? If not that may fix it. I'm using PlayonLinux on Arch using the same tutorial for setup, and it is detecting my graphics card correctly, but it looks like my card is a bit older than yours. I know the open source noveau drivers aren't as complete as the proprietary, so that could potentially change how the game detects it. I'm using the proprietary nvidia package. Other than that if there isn't a performance loss while running the game at the settings you are running at I dunno if I would even bother trying to fix it.

I use the nvidia 346.59 driver. One of the latest for my graphic-card.
It should be configured correctly because e.g. compiz works good on my system. Its only the wrong detection in poe. kind regards |

" That is the correct driver, so I am out of ideas. I don't really know much about WINE, I only use it for PoE. I have a couple of glitches I haven't been able to find a way to fix, but nothing that bothers me too much. Hopefully someone else knows something. Good luck. |

The 970m was added to wine 1.7.41 in april, therefore older wine versions didn't detect this card correctly and uses a fallback device.
https://www.winehq.org/announce/1.7.41 Playonlinux uses by default a special patched version 1.5.28-PathOfExile. Which version of wine are you using? You can try to overwrite the device id in the registry, to match a supported card similar to yours. Does the name of the card that is displayed impact running the game in any way?
I know that with wine 1.7.41 the setting changed from some high-end nvidia (which I definitely do not have) to some 470 thing, which might be true. Game runs, that is all I can say. I don't even know exactly which graphics chip I really have (Thinkpad T420). Bird lover of Wraeclast

Normally there should be no impact.
All cards from a series are getting the same tag and are treated equally, for example: DRIVER_NVIDIA_GEFORCE8 -> Geforce8 and newer is supported by the current 340.52 driver on XP-Win8 Maybe there can be an exception for a special card, but I don't think so. These are the actual fallback cards: 2167 CARD_NVIDIA_RIVA_128, /* D3D5 */ 2168 CARD_NVIDIA_RIVA_TNT, /* D3D6 */ 2169 CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCE, /* D3D7 */ 2170 CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCE3, /* D3D8 */ 2171 CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCEFX_5800, /* D3D9_SM2 */ 2172 CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCE_6800, /* D3D9_SM3 */ 2173 CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCE_8800GTX, /* D3D10 */ 2174 CARD_NVIDIA_GEFORCE_GTX470, /* D3D11 */ German chat: /global 4745 Last edited by Wofferl#2653 on May 9, 2015, 5:37:52 AM

Hello,
thanks for your answers. The wrong adapter_name has no impact to the game. It runs well so far. I changed the wine version to 1.7.1(latest) and modified the wine-registry entries.
Spoiler
![]() It still shows the Nvidia GTX 470 as adpter in the game options.

You need at least wine 1.7.41 so that your card is shown correctly.

I tried to run poe with wine 1.7.42 but the game did not start up with this wine-version. The window is black flickering.
Any hints what i have to configure or adjust in order to get it running? Please point me into the direction of solution! kind regards Last edited by iosan#2311 on May 9, 2015, 12:15:45 PM
