SKILL TO MAKE 2 HANDED SWORDS 1 HANDED

You seem to forget that this would allow 3x 6L gear.

1x 6L chest
2x 6L 2H weapon

THIS ALONE would be too much.

Here are some things that I think could be used in some combination to balance it:

Maybe something like this:
- 33% increased stat requirements for Two-Handed weapons
- 10% reduced attack speed
- 20% increased mana cost of skills
My suggestion is better. Removing Auras and Heralds (and reducing max Mana) does these things in a much more elegant and flavorful manner. Also, I feel dual-wielding staves as a spellcaster is best kept to the realm of impossibility.

Actually Caboom's suggestion was better.

Though I think it should only involve Axes and Swords, and not Staves, as that would be too much block alongside too much offense...plus how the hell do you wield two Staves haha.

For a caster NONE of these would hurt you, the "You cannot dual wield" would forbid to have 3x 6L but still 2x 6L like a 2H weapon user but with an extra 3L and the defense of a shieldwearer.

So overall: not going to happen and I don't want that to happen. Besides wearing giant swords or heavy mauls in just one hand look just damn stupid.

This is a case of one man's stupid being another man's awesome.

Also, 3x6L is surprisingly less abusive on zero Intelligence.

I disagree, I think the best way to balance this is with numbers. Removing all intelligence makes a lot of nodes worthless and, as you pointed out, eliminates many skills from potential builds (several of which are used in nearly every build like Auras). That's too restrictive in my opinion.

You're right, the trade-offs need to affect caster builds equally as much. Maybe the penalty is reduced attack AND cast speed? Reduced weapon AND spell damage?

This passive works in Diablo 3 because skill damage is based on weapon damage for all classes so the -20% weapon damage penalty that they use is a catch-all for everything the Crusader does. Definitely trickier for PoE but surely doable.

"cant wear chest armour" = even more barbarian style and a big BIG drawback
Simpsons Bringer of Rain already did it.

lol nice reference. Nothing to add to this conversation, just had to acknowledge this :)
Honestly, it seems there's a much more elegant solution.

Barbarism -- 2-handed swords, axes, and maces can be wielded in a single hand. 2-handed weapon damage reduced by 30%.

It honestly just seems like someone liked the Diablo 2 Barbarian's mechanic. I say why not?
