Coming from Diablo

This game is all about end game unlike Diablo 3.
Welcome to PoE, ive met a few people that have left D3 to try out PoE, once hitting maps, theres no turning back. They love the maps. Imagine when they start racing and imagine when A4 hits

i play this game daily, running various level maps with various toons, i love it, still not bored, i actually wish i had more time, lol. But Life has to pay for my gaming addiction, but meh.

GLHF and enjoy
Hey and welcome , i have about 800 hours in d3 and probably atleast double here, i guess its way higher then that though.

Anyways , the endgame here is a lot of fun , Rerolling characters and taking them to the highest maps is viable here contra d3 , constantly new leagues/uniques/expansions/skills makes it so you always have something new to try.

If you wanna be a special snowflakes go for atziri/uberatziri in hardcore , only one person actually doing uberatziri in the temporary leagues , so have fun chasing that =).

Collecting items is also a thing here , almost every temporary league leaves the game with items that can not drop from the ordinary game without huge currency commitment /timesink , these items grow in value and you can watch you collection grow in the permanent leagues =).

Give the game sometime , compared to diablo i think that this game is much deeper. (only my own opinion though , dont wanna step on anyones toes as this forum is volatile as shit)

Quite reverse.
Anticipation slowly dissipates...
Eh, PoE Races is not really end-game material as it doesn't require you to beat any content first.

You can create a PoE account and start racing before you even start the normal game part.

Maps is the end-game part of PoE as you will have to beat the games normal content before you can start mapping, a bit like raiding in a typical MMO.
Both games are in the shitter right now (This is my *PERSONAL* opinion before my haters - they know who they are - swarm me). Straight up no lies, will not try to even defend D3. The latest ROS patch had to include a lot of content shown off in Blizzcon last Nov - it aint got none of that. POE is beyond salvation at this point, it is heavily RMT / crit centric and the passive tree keeps getting more and more murdered every 4 months.

To answer your question: There is some endgame in POE if you are new to it, until you hit the brick wall that has graffiti on it saying 'RMT 500 exalts for some real gear for high end maps or ubers plx'.
"passive tree keeps getting more and more murdered every 4 months."

How is that?

Every single big patch i see only huge improvements...

I just... don't...WHAT?

Improvements .... what is your build? Because life builds since nemesis have only been getting less and less % hp in tree per spent points, the increase in base hp does not make up for it. Simple comparisons between nemesis / invasion / beyond - same build like an EK vita marauder ... same hp on gear and similar tree with x amount of points, would net 6-7k hp and then 5-6k hp and then 4-5k hp. The nemesis tree did not need to be fucked with, best meta ever. And now ... block got murdered, armor keeps being useless, evasion and dodge nerfed again. The RMTers and the crit builds can faceroll ubers cuz thats the only defense in this game ... one shot dps. Stupid damage and not getting hit at all is your best defense. This is not an MMO, this is an ARPG. Stop tinkering and fucking with shit. Diablo 2 lived for 12 years with about a patch a year that fixed some major bugs and gameplay issues and thats it. Let. that. shit. be.

For endgame, there's

  • Races. Very fun, especially the ones that aren't within the "main game" (=Endless Ledge, Descents, Descent : Champions). Races are events that last (usually) an hour or two and they have some special rules within them. Goal can be to level as much as possible or to kill something as fast as possible etc.
  • Mapping. You'll find maps which you then modify (with currency) to make them drop more items and maps. Basically the harder the map is, the more items and maps it will give back (though, this isn't always the case but will be in the long run). Maps can go up to level 78 (highest level area outside maps is 68) so they're required if you wish to level past 80s.
  • Atziri (and uber Atziri), though doing these constantly will require a lot of trading. However, doing Atziri every now and then uber when you get lucky is possible while running maps (=corrupt Cartographer Boxes you find and run the corrupted maps and then the fragments you get from them).
  • PvP, didn't do this myself so can't say much. I guess it's okay if you have a decent character and PvP is your thing. The problem with PvP seems to be the sick amount of gear (even if it's low level aka LLD) required to do even relatively well.

Eh, I guess that's it?

This is a good list.

Maps and Greater Rifts are cut from the same cloth. randomized zones with randomized monsters to fight. In PoE however, you can modify the maps, and you have specific zones rather than complete RNG like in D3. I prefer maps due to the fact that you get drops throughout, and you don't have to deal with trials and tiers like the GRifts.

Atziri. I haven't tried her yet, but it's definitely not the lol-easy-faceroll the D3 ubers are. Plus the potential drops are better, WAY less random then getting a good Hellfire amulet.

Races. Haven't competed in these yet, but it's a nice, short-term series of events that keeps things fresh, and has decent rewards.

Additionally, I think there is SO much more diversity in PoE in regards to classes and builds. D3 is very limiting. Each class has it's 1 or 2 worthwhile end-game sets, and you are pretty much forced to build around them. In PoE, there are many, MANY viable end-game builds, and since there are no sets, you can build various sets of rare and unique items to make your character.

I wouldn't know about Uber Atziri. Haven't completed her. But please don't tell people they need to RMT to run high level maps. That's simply not true.
