Coming from Diablo

How much endgame does this game have and how much is it patched/updated with new content? Diablo 3 seems pretty dead.
Diablo 3 is doing just fine with or with out us. Blizzard never expected it to last forever, they just expected to make a fuck tonne of money. And they did.

That said, this game is doing just fine (from my perspective). Also, quite fun.

Oh, and theres always lots of updates / additions to the content around these parts.

I wouldn't know as I have only played D3 for 10 min since I started playing this game 2 years ago. Don't know if end-game has changed since then.

This game has Uber's too and in addition-there is maps, a much larger leveling margin and what many consider to be end game is racing events which is a grueling test of skill (& collecting alternate art limited edition items that you win).

Enjoy
If you're coming from Diablo consider that Diablo means "devil" in Spanish, if you know what I mean.

Path of Exile offers the diversity Blizzard couldn't offer with Diablo 3. If you're looking for replayability, you're in the right place.

For endgame, there's

  • Races. Very fun, especially the ones that aren't within the "main game" (=Endless Ledge, Descents, Descent : Champions). Races are events that last (usually) an hour or two and they have some special rules within them. Goal can be to level as much as possible or to kill something as fast as possible etc.
  • Mapping. You'll find maps which you then modify (with currency) to make them drop more items and maps. Basically the harder the map is, the more items and maps it will give back (though, this isn't always the case but will be in the long run). Maps can go up to level 78 (highest level area outside maps is 68) so they're required if you wish to level past 80s.
  • Atziri (and uber Atziri), though doing these constantly will require a lot of trading. However, doing Atziri every now and then uber when you get lucky is possible while running maps (=corrupt Cartographer Boxes you find and run the corrupted maps and then the fragments you get from them).
  • PvP, didn't do this myself so can't say much. I guess it's okay if you have a decent character and PvP is your thing. The problem with PvP seems to be the sick amount of gear (even if it's low level aka LLD) required to do even relatively well.

Eh, I guess that's it?

The problem I have with the map system in PoE is that you cannot scale difficulty past a certain point. Your build is good, you can faceroll high quantity lvl78 maps, what now? Well that's it pretty much. There's Atziri and Uber, but they are not a sustained system of end game play, they're more a quick "event encounter". I obviously don't mind trading gear and whatnot, but it makes for a non-linear gearing up process (ie find random stuff, sell it to other players, then buy what you need) that sort of removes excitement from actually finding anything on the ground. (other than the one in a million super valuable unique)

The thing I like about D3 relatively (rocking season 2 atm, paragon 250 4 days into the season so not doing too bad) is that there is no top end. You facerolled the content? Cool, raise the grift level another couple points and beat that 15 minute timer. Good luck. And it doesn't end - it's a never ending competition to clear harder and harder content to be at the top of that leaderboard. (whereas PoE... measures its players by how much exp they have gained. D3 measures you by what difficulty of content you have cleared. THIS is the biggest part for me - if map levels scaled to infinity and we had to assemble some godmode 6man mirrored party to try and push higher than that other party, the end game would be amazing. But they can't do that - because they measure you by exp and cannot let you level too fast to reach cap.)

I love PoE, but I cannot get the same experience in it as I get in Diablo - 4 man team in a Skype call grinding day and night trying to push just one grift higher before we call it quits. We designed our team for synergy, planned our builds down to specific rolls on each gear piece, etc.

The truth is that real end game in PoE is sitting in town getting rich, and browsing the forum.

oh Jake :D

everything you say is true, but most of the people don't invest as much time as you and reach the point of mirror + BiS-Gear in every slot and till this point PoE is offering a lot of "end game"

The gearing in D3 is pretty far from linear as well when you reach certain point. You're looking for that 1 specific ring or set piece or even ancient version of it. No trading, good luck grinding your brains out.

At least in PoE you can constantly grind for orbs and thus constantly get closer to the next piece you need to 'buy'.

Your Grift level gets capped also relatively fast. And the only limiting factor is gear which is obtained purely based on RNG (I guess you do good on that part :P).

Try racing in PoE? You can always try pushing another level or get a few seconds off your Merveil kill etc. Isn't that kinda what you're looking for? You'll also get sick looking alternate arts if you're good at it.

I admit that D3 is fun (and I really love the demon hunter concept, especially the female one, I think I'm secretly in love with Laura Bailey voice acted characters...) but only for a week or two.

Fun Fact:
The creator of Diablo named it after a mountain in the East Bay area(Northern Cal.) right near where I(and he) live...it's called Mt.Diablo

Im bad at this quoting stuff sorry^^

Problems of the 0.1% :3
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
