Rain and Load Times

I never had any issue with rain in poe. My game only lags when i enter The Imperial Gardens while raining and act 3 final boss after it was release. Right now I dont face any problem with rain in The Imperial Gardens but sometime even area without rain effect takes time to load.
So yeah i dont believe its heavy load time caused by rain.
Please RNG give me a fishing rod !

I'm afraid i have to call bullshit on this. I have a top-end gaming laptop with a SSD ect... and EVERY zone that has rain takes noticeably longer for me to load. 100% of the time.

I don't notice a load time difference, but the zones with rain always have a bit more desync than others for me - Ledge/Caves/anywhere without rain, desync is extremely rare (for me)

In rain areas there are more spots where desync strikes
If there was an option *just* to disable rain, this would be a great option.

Our action simulation has almost nothing to do with client graphical options - are you sure you're using the term desync correctly?
You should try getting your hands on a machine with low single thread CPU performance so that you run into a CPU limit.

Once this happens the F1 graph shows a direct inversely proportional correlation between FPS/Frametimes and latency.

Having played on a Pentium 4 640 (a decade old piece o' junk chip, mind you) and a more recent Ivy i5 laptop I can say from experience that rain maps can cause wildly fluctuating frametimes and with it latency spikes from a 16ms base to 60-80ms which, as far as I understand your netcode, can contribute to desync.

In general it seems to me that the POE client behaves particularly badly as soon as the CPU becomes a limiting factor.

Take a look at this portion of Ghuddas video and how the latency goes haywire as the firestorm crushes his FPS, most likely due to the excessive amount of secondary particles bogging the CPU down.

Note also here how the low FPS seems to slow down the effective cast rate of his skill, indicating that inputs are dropped when FPS approaches cast speed (since general QoL is also the subject here).
Read about integrated Intel Graphics on this thread, so just wanna plug this post where I was using Intel HD 2500 (via core i3 3220):

Try running the test on normal computers please, the kind normal people have at homes and play on
I would suggest that to the people who are having issues with the rain after playing a bit, to disable your page file once and see how it goes.

If the game gives you an "out of memory" error, then it is a pretty simple issue. This game uses a beastly amount of ram, and having a lot of over head on in the back ground can lead to the game having some files loaded to the page file, instead of ram. Even with a SSD the page file will be insanely slower then ram when it comes to loading graphical items.

Let alone the page file can become fragmented incredibly easily.

This game must be poorly optimized because it won't run at 120fps on my machine.

Problem isn't rain. Problem is you have an unlimited amount of particles happening on your screen.

Your character is already attacking super fast and with a LMP/GMP gem, then you have countless corpses laying on the ground (mobs don't lose their particles effects when dead), countless gear laying on the ground, countless mobs attacking you (more particles), then burning/desecrate ground. Basically, this is Path of Exile when you find a pack on a map.

Your CPU can't handle that. Specially a game that doesn't support multithread. Unless GGG impose some limits of how many things can be processed, FPS will always be this mess. This happened with Diablo 3, on some extent. They tone down pack density/particles on the 360/PS3 version due to hardware.

Also, a test made on a PC specifically built to make games isn't fair. Try to run the same test on a low-mid end PC with AMD chips.

Why would particle effects be done on CPU? This isn't 2003. GPUs can handle particle simulation and have been able to for more than a decade now.
Rain doesn't make the zone load slower for me, it makes things like someone using mjolner build (which is already laggy as fuck) lag even more. Test that.

Running dual 290Xs....

Being able to toggle on/off particule effect is probably the most requested on forums and reddit and also easy as fuck

if you want to sell thisoption as an MTX fine... we'll all pay for it!
ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it
