New Currency Item : Gem XP
" For spells, gem level is everything. Sure, one can just buy a leveled gem on poe.trade, or get one leveled from a strong box. But I think this might benefit new players more than anyone else, which is the main basis that I'd be ok with this. If it gave 500,000 gem xp, and if it takes 57 million xp to go from gem level 18 to 19, then you'd need over 114 orbs to move just this 1 level (my other post math was off.) So if this orb was worth half a chaos, that would be 57c for 1 level. Then, clearly, the use for this isn't at the top end. The xp growth factor already makes sure of that. The only possible top end use is a player who has the gem very close to level, and is just getting lazy, and really wants to use or vaal orb it already. The amount of XP granted would correlate directly to the rarity, so they could balance it however they want. Here's the two extremes:
High Drop Rate = Low Amount of XP granted (think chaos in terms of cost) Low Drop Rate = High Amount of XP granted (think exalt in terms of cost) So would you rather a really rare item that gives half a level to a 19 gem and brings a level 1 gem to level 15 (or whatever it would be). Or would you rather a common item that allows you to fine tune which gems to "boost" to 20 a little faster. Personally I favor the latter for flexibility, but either option would work to solve what I consider to be a pain. |

+1 to OP, except I think it should NOT autolevel the gem.

I was curious about the levelling speed of gems, and experimented it. With my 4 dailies (including a level 6 Zana), I got a level 1 Incinerate to level 9. I expected it to be quicker.
Here's my thought : if such an orb isn't worth at least a level 78 map's experience, then it's probably too impractical to be useful. I mean, who wants to use 20 stacks to give a single level to a gem? Why does the OP suggest an autolevel? Because using one on a low level gem would give it way more than a level's worth of experience, and using 10 of them to get the gem to level 11 would be a huge waste of resources (as the gem's experience is capped by its current level). |

" If this was a currency item it wouldnt even give you much XP to begin with or you would only need very few of them. But this wont be done anyways because its a shortcut to lvling gems the old fashioned way and GGG wants us to grind for XP. |

The question is, "How could this be actually useful to the game?"
Removing the need to level from playing the game isn't really a good thing, but making it easier for low to mid level new players to switch gems could have a real benefit. However, that doesn't mean this is needed. Quest rewards could give gems leveled at appropriate levels to the quest, or a new trade system could make it easier and hassle free to acquire gems with a little bit of xp. |
